Why would someone try to answer a question that they don't know anything about or believe is real or exists? That's just weird to me. What do you think?

I myself was raised a Christian, but one that embraced other ideas, scientific or religion based. Throughout my life I have become somewhat Agnostic, but much more of a Humanist, which means I believe in no afterlife and that we have to make the world the best we possibly can while we are alive for the benefit of all. I think that people need to have faith, in anything that they see fit, as long as they have ideas, but dont need to push their faith onto other people. Ive learned through a diverse network of friends that there are millions of different ideas about "God" or "Mother Nature" or "A watchmaker" and its impossible to prove either way if "God" exists or does not. People definitely have the right to express their opinions on anything, especially in a place that's meant for it, just because someone is atheistic doesnt mean they havent been exposed to the most common beliefs and cant answer questions.

I'm atheist, but I grew up Christian. I've read the entire Bible cover to cover, and in fact have been Christian far longer than I've been atheist. Both my mom, dad, and sister are devout Christians. Even though I don't believe in God, I still know a lot about God, and thus feel qualified to answer some religious questions.
Hope this helps!

Edit after reading Sonic Flood's reply:

Wow. Maybe you misunderstood my reply. I was a devout Christian up until I turned 18. I read the Bible, handed out pamphlets on street corners, attended Bible study, and attended a semester at my local Bible college. Unfortunately I was asking a lot of questions that I couldn't find answers to through Christianity. I investigated a lot of different religions, and came to the conclusion that there isn't one right religion. I eventually decided that there is no God after all. That's a personal decision that everyone has to make for themselves, though. I still feel qualified to answer religious questions, because I have the ability to be able to see things from a Christian's point of view. I also have the sense to recognize that not everyone will agree with my point of view.
I also would hardly characterize myself as "stupid". I'm a paramedic with an IQ of 130, so I'm a long way from "stupid", actually.
Does this clarify things?

If you know the answer to a question, why withold it?

Atheists may not believe god is real, but that doesn't mean that they know nothing of religious beliefs.
In fact, the case is often quite the opposite; many atheists are very familiar with the beliefs of various religions (especially, in the case of american atheists, christianity).

Do you actually mean, "why do atheists sometimes give asinine answers to religious questions?"
The same reason that all people say asinine things on the internet: anonymity and a bad attitude tend to lead people to voice their unpleasent opinions. Being a jerk doesn't discriminate by religion.

I think that athiest try to point out your flaws as you do theirs. That is a good thing, but I don't think I have ever heard an athiest answer questions about your god or any god, you are thinking of something totally different, probly non-christians which are not athiests. I don't believe in YOUR god, but that doesn't make me an athiest, it makes me a realist and modest enough to believe that not everything I need to know is in a book (cuz then seek and ye shall find would not be needed would it) I hope yall' both find a way to co-exist and truly help eachother grow as good people. That would be a miracle from MY god...

The thing a lot of people don't understand is that many, MANY atheists are atheists because they HAVE read the Bible and/or been active in a religion and have come to the conclusion, based on actual experiences with religion, that God is not a very viable belief.

They answer because they have answers, just like anyone else. And just as you wish to spread the idea that God is real, they want to let people know why he isn't.

Come on, you have to know this is a stupid question and simply a poor attempt to bash atheists.

Why the hell did I just answer THIS question???

Why would atheists (or satanists) make threatening statements-is that under bashing as well as hatred? Since someone brought it up would an atheist also say someone with an IQ of 150* has to be a moron, if they're a Christian, that is? I wonder if they know they're fulfilling prophesy at the moment.

I bet you do not know as much about god or theological questions than many atheists in this world. I know quite a bit about dragons but I do not believe in them or that they exist. Your belief like most christians is probably that of faith without knowledge or learning. For many the bible is something to hold and wave around not to read. Once read it cannot be believed unless you are willing to reject thinking and even sanity.

Because they still wanna share their point of view. They hear about God even if they don't necessarily believe in him. They have the right to have an opinion on him just like you can have an opinion on atheist people. Your way of thinking is not really logical. It's as if I asked a question like "Why do people who don't believe in communism still answer questions about it?" Well because they still have an opinion on it even if they do not agree with it.

How many times is THIS particular question going to be asked here? In a nutshell, religion affects us all by interfering with our everyday life in an infinity of ways. So we have a right to counterattack. If you want further explanations or the development of an example (such as religions lobbying to forbid EVERYONE, not just Christians from aborting) go through my about five similar answers to about five similar questions. BTW, if you must know, here's one of the questions I was talking about:

Perhaps atheists have known god a little bit more than the believers do,and have decided to sever all connections. It all depends on people's reasoning.
