My Zoe had 3 kittens almost 3 wks ago. She's a great mom and nurses them fine. Once a day Zoe goes off to take a break which is understandable but the kittens start climbing out of their box..is it ok to let them do this or should I put them back in the box? Their eyes are open and they are alert and healthy.

Thanks everyone. I'll let them hang outside the box once in a while. I appreciate all your responses :)

Here is a pic of my little grandbabies..lol. From left to right, Cindy, Gary, and Bell. Bell is going to be adopted when she turns 8 wks. They will be 3 wks old tomorrow. Aren't they adorable!!

Of course it's okay to let them out of the box. Cats are curious and they want to explore their surroundings. You should post a picture of your kittens. I love kitty katters.

Let them explore. They sound ready to start bouncing around the house. If this is a problem, get a deeper box, but they will soon learn to jump and climb out!

in general its ok for them to wander. if they get in to trouble they will meow and mum will find them and replace them by carrying them by the scruff of the neck. however they dont no where the litter tray is or what it is yet, so for the cleanliness of ur home i would increase their pen and raise the walls. also, if u r using a litter tray, and u will with kittens, DO NOT let pregnant women in the house. an illness called Toximea (spelling wrong) is very dangerous and can kill an unborn.

As long as there aren't any nooks, crannies, holes to fall into or sharp objects (door edges, etc), sure...why not! Mom will round them up later....unless it make the mother more nervous and she can't rest, then put a screen on top of the box with something soft, but a bit heavy so they can't knock it down...

Yes its ok, there just beginning to realize that there is a much bigger world outside of their nest box, they just want to explore. Just keep an eye on them and dont let them wander too far from mom.

if you don't want them to stray too far you may need a larger box so they can exercise in it
but I would let them out a couple times a day for play
