A lot of people think the idea of having a tongue piercing is cool. Then you have to get over the realization that you are going to let someone push a very sharp needle right through your tongue. That part goes really quickly if you decide to do it. Then you get to go home with a very big tongue and figure out how to go back to regular life. Here are a few tips that might make things easier or head off a few awkward situations.

Aftercare

Chances are you are armed with some Gly-Oxide and some flavor of antiseptic gargle and not much more. Well, really that’s all you need. The trick as with all piercings is to heal a deep tissue wound. Actually, tongues are fairly straight forward once the swelling goes down.

Brushing your teeth at first might be painful as opening the jaw can stretch the swollen tissues. Go slowly. Be diligent in following your care routine as infected tongues are most unpleasant. One note, infected tongues smell badly so that, along with swelling or tenderness that increase, are the signs that might indicate a problem. Remember piercing is quite bruising and it may seem to get worse for the first two to three days. You will also be increasingly hungry and eating can be a bit uncomfortable on its own.

Eating Post-Piercing

What to eat after getting your tongue pierced is an art unto itself. Sucking ice will help with the swelling, but runs very short on flavor and nutrition. You will not want to chew much as your swollen tongue will be very prone to you biting it accidentally (remember it’s suddenly bigger than usual) as well as trying to avoid pressure on the new piercing itself. Clear broth and soups are good starters, and a few folks swear by baby food. Avoid very hot food, whether it is in temperature or spiciness. The jewelry will conduct both hot and cold sensation into the tongue and you can burn yourself if the jewelry gets too hot. Until the piercing heals, very spicy food will also burn the inner tongue tissue.

Once the swelling goes down, and if you switch to a shorter barbell, you will find you should have little to no effect on eating now that your tongue is pierced. Random stories circulate of various one-off mishaps and many of these can be avoided with a bit of thought. There have been reports of people hooking fork tines onto the ball at the ends of their piercing while eating. Eating more slowly and being mindful of “fork depth” into the mouth will lessen the chances of this. There have also been a few reports of individuals who had a food item snap on the barbell end just as they were swallowing, with minor choking the result. The biggest culprit for this is pizza cheese, as it is very stretchy. Again, a bit of mindfulness can make this a very rare occurrence with thorough chewing of smaller bites being an easy fix.

well your tongue is pinkish and red so that's not much help, the burning is probably a bit of something spicy you ate getting into the wound or you've maybe tore it while eating/talking/playing with it. tongue piercings aren't really easy to get infected actually-there is a lot of blood flow to the area and you have to be a special kind of stupid to let it get that bad. Calm down on the listerine, this is going to dry it out. use a non-alcoholic mouthwash when you brush your teeth and otherwise get a 16oz bottle of water and mix in 1/2 tsp of sea salt (not table or epsom-get it at a grocery store) and carry this with you-when you eat, drink anything other than water, or smoke rinse your mouth out. do not play with it, this includes a lot of kissing

Try rinsing with Listerine. It's an anticeptic mouthwash and will kill the germs causing you so much trouble. Be sure to do this after each meal, because food particles can get stuck down in the piercing site and cause discomfort. Also, make sure that everytime you examine your piercing, you are doing it with clean hands. If all else fails, see your piercer or your doctor. Good luck.

It might just be healing. While it's healing certain foods will make it burn - like acidy or citrusy foods. You should be rinsing you mouth multiple times a day, after eating or smoking, and with a non alcohol based mouthwash. But, if you think there may be a problem go back to the piercer and have them check it out.

DO NOT take the ring, it will act like a wick to draw out the infection, wait for medical instruction to take it out. What are you eating? Spicy food can cause the same reaction, and the discoloration can just be from the impact wound. Keep rinsing, and if your really concerned contact the ER.. My husband is a Piercer of 7 years, so I asked him.

Take the ring out NOW! Its definitely infected and you should go and see a health-care professional as you may require anti-biotic to clear up the infection... Don't put the ring back in until the infection is gone... Oh... One more thing, sterilize the ring before popping it back in otherwise you could end up re-infecting it...

Get rid of the ring. Rinse with Listerine night and day. If there is no change in three days, hurry to a doctor.

Go to the chemist and get the mouth wash that he says to. I can't remember the name of it but it will clear that right up, don't want till it turns black.

Also make sure you follow the instructions you were given when you had this done, brush after each meal and drinking and use mouth wash each time. If you smoke after each cigarette.

don't get it pierced, try to gargle with an alcohol based mouth wash as often as you can don't smoke. If you have no improvement in a few day or it really gets worse or your tongue is really swollen see a Dr. you have an infection.

depart it on my own and attempt no longer play with it as much as possible. It sounds basically like mine did while mine grew to become into therapeutic. even if if it truly is contaminated you will definately recognize approximately it. save utilising diluted mouth wash. Luckkily with the piercing being on your mouth it truly is the quickkest component of your physique to heal if it does get contaminated. (:
