buy a spray bottle and fill it with water with just a drop of food colouring. Tell her it's special monster spray and she can squirt it when she's scared. Or buy a new stuffed toy to put in her room, and tell her that the monsters are scared of it

First tell her you don't really believe in monsters, but you bought a special monster spay just to be on the safe side.
Then get a spray bottle and put water mixed with a little bit of perfume. Make a big label that says monster B-Gone on it. For three nights in a row spray her room with her watching. Tell her that it can only be done for three days and then you have to skip a day and then do it every other day for another week. Tell her the spray is very powerful and it has to be used according to directions only.
My kids are now grown, but I had the same problem and this is what their doctor told me to do. It worked like a charm. I now use it for the grandkids.

Some people think that playing scary games with kids is fun. I think it can be damaging, especially with little kids. A night light might make her afraid of the dark. A flashlight might be better. Lay with her for awhile in the dark and turn the light on to show familiar things in her room, saying, "See, no monsters!" in a cheerful voice. She should be able to use it to reassure herself after you leave. I've also had great luck with a nice big stuffed animal to "stand guard" at night, but she may be too young for that. See if you can find out where this idea of monsters is coming from. It could be TV, in which case, you could show her how the TV works. If someone has frightened her, you need to deal with that.

When I was little and scared of the dark & monsters, my mom sat with me and taught me how to use my imagination to "get rid" of the monsters. If I was scared she would tell me to imagine the monsters wearing hats, or tutu's, or bunny slippers - - something silly.
What you may want to do is ask the sitter what your 2 year old saw that would make her afraid of monsters. . . did she see something on TV? did other children tell her something? If your child is no longer exposed to that stimulus then you can work on reestablishing her safety.

My daughter and her father wrote up a document that said that there were no monsters in her room and that they weren't allowed in there, then they checked everywhere, and they both signed it. They did this when she was 4 and she is now 11 and we still have it on her wall. We all laugh about how cute it was.

When my niece was around 2 years old, the sound of an airplane roaring overhead always scared her. My sister and brother-in-law taught her to shake her finger at the sky and say, "Bad airplane! You go away!" And sure enough, that airplane went away!
You might try that with your 2 year old. Then go check all over the room and tell her, "See? They're all gone!"

i think its the sitters influencing your children. first of all reassure their are no such things. comfort her and keep telling her no such things. pray for her. then go into her room and make sure there are no dark spots, and kids friendly. no sharp edges, all closets closed and cover the gap under the bed. also, just put cloths covering the gaps and holes of stuff. night lights are a great way of soothing your child and make her more confident. and dont let the sittttters take care of her anymore becuase i think they will influence and corrupt the minds of your children and other young ones. good luck.

oh I hate that. Put a night light in her room. I told my son there is no such thing as monsters. He doesn't complain about them anymore. He is 3 now.
