Yes an atheist or agnostic can go to heaven, if it exists. I have found that agnostics and atheists are generally good people. I have much respect for a person who is good because it is the right way to be. I despise people who are good because they fear punishment if they are bad ie going to hell.

Who's asking?
If you are an atheist, you don't care. You don't believe in heaven, and so you don't think of heaven, except to say, "I don't believe in it, and I wish those other idiots wouldn't believe in it either."
If you are an agnostic, you care but you fear commitment. So you think, "There might be a heaven, but I'm going to just let this thing play out and not do anything about committing to God, and if there is a heaven, I guess I hope I get in on account of my fabulous personality." So the agnostic cares, but not enough to actually care.
If you are a Christian, and you are asking because you are afraid for your atheist and/or agnostic friends, you know better than to ask people what the judgment of God is going to be at the end of time.
So whoever is asking here, and for whatever purposes, any definitive answer seems sort of like empty rhetoric to me.

Why is an atheist or professed agnostic worried about heaven? As a non Christian myself, I do believe in heaven nor hell for that matter. I was under the impression that an atheist did not believe in heaven nor hell, but maybe I was wrong for believing this way. If you are a good hearted person, I believe that you will be rewarded for your work in your lifetime. I do not believe that a person that has tried to do the better things in life will be punished for not professing their faith in "god". I believe that if you have lead a wholesome life that you will be rewarded.

Possibly, provided you were ignorant of the teachings of Jesus. I think this would apply more to agnostics rather than atheists, since agnostics might very well still be seeking God.
From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
847 This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church:
Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation.337
848 "Although in ways known to himself God can lead those who, through no fault of their own, are ignorant of the Gospel, to that faith without which it is impossible to please him, the Church still has the obligation and also the sacred right to evangelize all men."338
Here is a prayer I kind of like:
MY LORD GOD, I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me.
I cannot know for certain where it will end.
Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.
But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you.
And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing.
I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.
And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it.
Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death.
I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

Im my opinion, god loves everyone, so He should admit everyone to 'heaven'. Just cause you are agnostic doesnt mean that you dont believe in a god - it may just mean they do have a religion that they want to follow. Like me for instance, I consider myself agnostic. I do not believe in any type of god. I believe there is something up there, and for that matter, down there. I dont think that I should go to a church/chapel to prove to others that I believe in 'jesus' or whomever.
God should accept anyone and everyone.
Atheists on the other hand (from my understanding) is a person who believes that there is no type of god. and things dont happen for a reason - our actions create the reaction - no other way.

Here's what God, the Creator of heaven and earth has to say:
Psa 14:1 For the choir director. Davidic. The fool says in his heart, "God does not exist." They are corrupt; their actions are revolting. There is no one who does good.
Psa 14:2 The LORD looks down from heaven on the human race to see if there is one who is wise, one who seeks God.
Psa 14:3 All have turned away; all alike have become corrupt. There is no one who does good, not even one.
Psa 14:4 Will evildoers never understand? They consume my people as they consume bread; they do not call on the LORD.
Psa 14:5 Then they will be filled with terror, for God is with those who are righteous.
Psa 14:6 You sinners frustrate the plans of the afflicted, but the LORD is his refuge.
Psa 14:7 Oh, that Israel's deliverance would come from Zion! When the LORD restores His captive people, Jacob will rejoice; Israel will be glad.
Joh 3:12 If I have told you about things that happen on earth and you don't believe, how will you believe if I tell you about things of heaven?
Joh 3:13 No one has ascended into heaven except the One who descended from heaven--the Son of Man.
Joh 3:14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,
Joh 3:15 so that everyone who believes in Him will have eternal life.
Joh 3:16 "For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.
Joh 3:17 For God did not send His Son into the world that He might judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
Joh 3:18 Anyone who believes in Him is not judged, but anyone who does not believe is already judged, because he has not believed in the name of the One and Only Son of God.
Joh 3:19 "This, then, is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than the light because their deeds were evil.
Joh 3:20 For everyone who practices wicked things hates the light and avoids it, so that his deeds may not be exposed.
Joh 3:21 But anyone who lives by the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be shown to be accomplished by God."

Jesus said "I am the way the truth and the life.No one comes to the father except through me"Which means no Jesus ,no way to the father, which means either you are wrong or Jesus is wrong.Either He is a liar or He is Lord(to quote an old proverb)He can't be both...You choose. That's what He wants, your freedom of choice and not everyone's gonna' choose correctly.

Why don't you tell me? After all, YOU are an atheist! You don't believe in the Hindu Gods. You don't believe in the Muslim God, Allah. In fact, you have rejected their beliefs. The definition of an atheist is simply: one who believes that there is no deity.
So A Muslim has every right to call you an atheist, a Hindu has every right to call you an atheist, because you have chosen to reject their deity.
Do you worry that you will go to the Muslim version of Hell? Do you worry that you will go to the Hindu version of Hell because you have rejected those deities?

Obviously this concern is not relevant to an Atheist, but an Agnostic would not be eligible for admission according to the "good book". This golden ticket is only available for those who have no doubt, accept this creature as their savior and pay their dues. As for those who have the audacity to think for themselves, to do good for the sake of doing good, not out of fear of eternal damnation, they are screwed.
