If the parents can afford all the special care for the child, and have enough love for the child, and can provide care for the child in the form of a trust or something after they die, then they can keep it...if not, letting him/her live may be more cruel than aborting him/her before the child takes his/her first breath.
I suffered brain damage at birth, and it was a long, hellish, journey to normality...whatever that may be :)
I even tried to kill myself, because the simplest things for others was so darn hard for me. I was constantly teased, made fun of, I thought I was no good, should not be alive, it was a sheer nightmare and I had minimal brain damage....severely retarded...oh no, I would beg to be aborted.
it is one thing to stand on a soap box and say it is God's will that these fetuses be saved...and quite another to live the life of one of these kids who has been saved.
Like that poor woman who was in a coma for so long, and her loved ones refused to allow her exhusband, or husband, I was always confused about that, pull the plug.
If I were her, I would be whispering in these "loved" ones ears begging them to let me goooooo. I mean, really, life in a vegetative state, with no hope of recovery...no way in heck would I want to exist that way. I say exist because that is not living
.
Anyway, that is my answer, and I am sticking with it.

no it's not.
the child would not feel equal to everyone else.. even if he/she does not openly speak about it. Besides, it is a fetus not an actual baby.
And by the way, if a baby is born retarded, after a mother dies, who will take care of the baby? The STATE?
there is no funding in state to take care of people like that. And if there is some kind of funding, there is a risk that this child or grown up with be abused by nurses or doctors.
And then, others will make fun of the kid. What kind of person are you to let your kid to go through this? Kids are cruel.

If I were in that position I honestly can't say what I'd do. I 've been tring to get pregnant for 8yrs. now. I 'd have to sit down and really evaluate what kind of quality of life my baby would have, you know? Who would take care of the baby if something happened to me. Just all kinds of stuff. that's a very hard question for me to answer. I'm not for abortion or against it either in certain circumstances.

I guess part of it depends on how developed the child is. But if the parents don't think they could handle the job of raising a child like that, then it would probably be the best for the child and the parents if it was aborted.

That's a personal choice. Everyone must live with the consequences of their actions. There are compelling reasons both pro and con for that question and I for one couldnt' begin to tell you what is the correct answer. I hope I never have to make that kind of choice.

I would not.
Science knows alot but its not perfect, and mistakes are made.
I firmly believe every person is here for a reason and its not my place to decide who lives or not-- or decide for another person their "quality of life".
Interestingly, we were told our youngest might be retarded. Some family members urged abortion, but we refused-- and she is absolutely healthy and genius level IQ.

I have worked with mentally challenged children for many years and I'm here to tell you that "God don't make no Junk" Everyone is on this earth to serve a purpose.
We don't know what any of our purposes are,but we are here to serve in our own unique way.

I believe it is the mother's choice as she is the one that will raise the child and take care of it until the day she dies. It is always the mother's choice.

Is it wrong to you? That is the question you need to find. In our society, we are often swayed by mass opinion.
