When you sleep the Brain has to stay active to keep vital systems working; Heart, Lungs, etc. Some of the Brain may actually sleep/rest, especially in a deep sleep. So, what actually happens; The part of the Brain that stays Active becomes bored, no visual input as your eyes are closed. So, to entertain itself, the Brain make up Home Videos. Usually it will use the things that it remember for that day. Things you hear, see, and think. It puts all this together into some really weird stuff sometimes.

Your body is at rest but i fyour mind rested you would be dead! LOL, your dreams are your self consious, which doesn't sleep unless you die, re creating things in your mind based on your wants, desire, goals, or even as silly as a movie you watched and your brain will twist it up just enough to make a weird dream out of it..

A person’s life is full of dreams. Dream can be about one’s ambition which he gets fulfilled with the passage of time thru his own hard work, intelligence, good planning and with the blessings of Almighty. Another is day dreaming which is really not a good habit and can be controlled with one’s will power. But what about the dreams a person experiences during sleep. Do they hv effect in our real life? What do they mean? What is their interpretation? The person asks to his friends, elders and seniors in his social circle. Sometimes he gets satisfactory reply and sometimes not. These days Internet is a rich source of information. So one does not need to depend on others for one’s dream interpretation. The Yahansmaniac Community member suggests the following.

Our body does not rest while we sleep. It is busy, busy, busy, with the job of healing itself.

And dreams are pretty much the subconscious at play.

I would write more, but it is midnight, and my body is demanding sleep and rest.

Below is a fantastic article on the subject, and, after reading it, I dare not deprive my body and mind of the sleep it is demanding.

Wonderful question :)

the body rests, but deep in your brain neurons are still firing subconciously. that's what create dreams. actually when you enter the stage of sleep in which dreams occur, some gland secretes a hormone that paralyzes your muslces (except for you vital signs of course) so that you don't act out your dream. people who act out their dreams have a problem with this function. i found that interesting...ya.

yes our bodies rest but our mind is always going..I think dreams are the way the brain relaxes..because we take in so much info that maybe a dream is a way for the brain to release..Thats my 2 cents..LOL

i guess we just think about the things that happened in our day but just exagerated. the body rests but the mind stays even more active than usual. sweet dreams.

read up on sleep. our bodies are working over time when we are at rest.

liver production goes up, the body eats up fats and calories.. (ever weigh yourself before bed? ever get up the next day and weigh in again? try it)

cholesterol production happens in our sleep.

dreams are the brain's parts we don't use during the day going into high gear while we are manufacturing things during the night.

We dream during R.E.M. (rapid eye movement) phase of sleep, brain activity peaks & our muscles suffer temporary paralysis.

While our body rests, our brain has to keep functioning.
