The Bible confirms the location of over 2500 archeological sites in the Middle East. The Bible is used as a reference by secular and sectarian scholars alike. Events in the Bible can be validated by third party historical writings, antagonistic and sympathetic...yet it seems that the prevailing attitude on this board is that the Bible is a myth. Can you support your position with evidence?

Just want to clarify...I asked you to support your position with evidence, not opinion.

Of course they can't, stronz. It ain't there.

If there was any SOLID proof, Athiests, Agnostics, Muslims, etc. would be all over it like white on rice. Everybody in the world would know about it as soon as humanly possible.

The fact that they used the bible to help locate all those sites is proof that at least most of the bible stories are true and valid. Is enough proof in its self that the bible and its events are real. Just because they haven't found all of the sites yet is not proof that the bible is a myth. Only that more resurch is needed to find the sites which may be now more than a pile of buried ruins beneath the sands of the desert. Also in trying to find the Guarden of Eden will be no easy task as the river beds have changed courses more than once in the past which in its self can throw off the location by hundreds of miles. And If GOD is real the site has been hidden from our sight by the will of the CREATOR andguared from detection by Angels. So that we do not eat of the tre of lifeand become as gods our selves.
The Norse Gods ate of the golden apples of a tree to keep them immortal.who much of that is a bleed over or the beginning of the myth.

Maybe I'm not in the group of people you are asking, but I'd like to answer anyway! The Bible itself is real (obviously!), and some of it was written by people who really lived in the places that they talk about in the Bible. However, the myth comes in when you read the very earliest stories in the Bible. The whole creation myth is exactly that, it is a story told to explain the beginning of the human race, just like creation myths all around the world. Most of the latter books of the Bible were written by people about the times that they were living in, but Genesis is just a fable. And I hate to say it, but proving that places that are mentioned in the Bible really existed is hardly proof that everything said in the Bible is true! After all, there are a lot of books out there that talk about real places and are pure fiction otherwise.

The reason that people say it is a myth is that it wasn't written down until 1500 years after the fact, which means that the stories had been handed down orally and were subject to many changes. That makes it more of an anthology of tales than anything else. It was written by man and is subject to the author's opinions and attitudes. Since it was written by men they would have included actual places in the bible so this is not proof, as you say.

Are Peter Pan or Harry Potter true stories? Well, they both confirm the location of London. I have heard Peter Pan used as a reference by secular scholars and by peanut butter companies.

Remember, a stopped clock gets the time right twice a day. That doesn't prove anything about its accuracy any other time.

The Bible gets all those things right because it was written by men who were alive during those time periods.

However, it misses the boat on things the men who lived during those time periods didn't know: the earth is not flat; the sun does not go around the earth; the mustard seed is not the smallest seed on earth; people do not live 969 years; the whole earth was NOT of one language around 2400 BC (when the tower of Babel took place); goats do not have striped babies by copulating while looking at striped rods; bats are not birds; the earth DOES move; ostriches are not cruel parents; dragons, unicorns, and cockatrices do not exist.

Whew.

Wow, you sure got a lot of unbelievers answering this question! Sad. Hopefully, those who come later will also pick up on the fact that none of the unbelievers could give a credible witness to their answers. They gave only their opinion, of which there are trillions. But there is only one truly Holy book of God's Word - the bible.

I will agree that some things in the bible are correct. But you have to agree that ALOT of the bible is wrong. Just because it is right about a few things does not mean it is wright about everything.

So the earth is flat and the sun revolves around it... is that what you are saying?

The bible is mythology, fiction and lies. The bible is full of absurdities and contradictions. Anyone who claims the bible is the truth has not read it (or is mentally ill) ... to say otherwise is solely based on faith not fact.

Faith is a poor substitute for knowledge and truth.
