Is there any evidence that the Bible is in fact the word of God?

No. It's taken on faith.

Not enough for me.

Ok, u asked for it :)
The Holy Bible was at first oral teachings because 6000 yrs ago the Hebrews didn't have an alphabet. Around 35 BC the Hebrew alphabet formed. People started writting all the words they had heard from prophets like Moses, David, etc. So the bible was being written in words before the 1st century. Christians, real Christians, believe that God sent His spirit (the Holy Ghost) to these prophets so their words weren't wrong and the translations were wrong. There are actual words in the bible that God said. Most are in the first 5 books (Torah) having been said by Moses himself who spent a lot of time with God and talking to God. On Mt. Sinai to get the 10 commandments (laws), in the tent where the tabernacle was kept (the holy ark) and such. God spoke to other people by sending angels down to earth. Gabriel spoke to Mary and Joseph about Emmanuel (Jesus), Gabriel also spoke to David a few times.
To me, the Holy Bible is God's instruction manual to us to follow and learn and remember. It (His words) tells us history, parables, and the future. It tells us how we should behave and what will happen if we do behave and if we don't.
I've been studying the bible for the past 3 yrs and I will be studying it until the day I die. I have questions all the time. It's difficult to understand many things. But, and this is truthful, most of my questions have been answered thus far and I am waiting with patience for the rest to be answered.
When, if, you read and study the bible, make sure you talk with knowledgable people. The huge mistake many of us are doing is reading it and interpreting the meaning on our accord. God and the prophets talked in a different language back then than how we talk today. American english has messed up a lot of ancient words and people don't it.

The KJV was written in the 17th century, from old manuscripts which have been unchanged for a long time, atleast for 1600 years (2000 years now)

Research the Dead Sea Scrolls, most of the Old testaments has been proven to have not changed(they didn't find it all), if that being the case why weren't there many different versions of the Bible in 200 AD? or 300 AD? yet there were thousands of them.

God also tells us in the NT that his word is inspired. Of course watchout, many new versions today are so perverted it is not funny, such as the NIV.

Even if you are not religious, you would have to admit that the Bible is important:

--It is the one of the oldest surviving manuscripts of history and philosophy,
--It is the first mechanically printed book and the first mass-produced book (its printing is thought to mark the end of the Dark Ages),
--It is the most read book in history,
--Its publication and distribution in English changed the spread and nature of the English language, the way we educate our children, the way we think about ourselves in the world. The mass publication of the Bible raised the literacy rate, which brought to an end the serfdom system and made possible the quick spreading of news, which allowed democratic representation to be possible in the modern era, and
--It is one of the first cross-cultural manuscripts known to exist. Its authors are Egyptian, Ethiopian, Jordanian, Isreali, Greek, and Roman, just to name a few.

Yes, it is true that the Bible has been edited, translated, abridged, and reordered by the powers that be; but that does not detract from what it is. It is our living history; it is the direct reflection of what it means to be human: it's about our desires and our wants, our worst nightmares and our greatest dreams, our past and our present, us at our worst and most scared and us at our best and most proud. There is no book that studies, examines, and documents the human condition as completely as the Bible does, and that's why it is so important. It's about us--all of us.

I hope that helps.

Wow, if the writers of the bible knew about the dinosaurs, among many other things, it would have made the believability factor so much stronger! That's a question I've often asked myself, considering that so much has happened and we have discovered so much together as a species SINCE the bible was written! So was the bible inspired by the word of god? Of course not! I'm just wondering when people are going to realize that it's more important to solve our problems here than to fanatically live our lives based solely on an outdated book, and on some "magical" faith that will give us ANOTHER LIFE!! Wake up, people!! We get but ONE CHANCE at this life thing; we're NO DIFFERENT than any other living thing, but some of us sure think so!!

well. . . . not exactly. Bible is the collection of books (66 books, 40 overs writers) written in the span of 1400 yrs, from 1300yrs before Jesus, to about 100 AD.

Err. . . yes it is by hands of men. But the 66 books, 40 over writers all had the same theme, even when they don't meet.

strange enough, even Historian also agreed with the writting of the Bible. Write to me, I will give more details on all this issues in details.
God bless u.

They translated the Torah into English(approximately). also the writings of the Apostles of Jesus(filled in any missing pieces with what they think should be there).thus the Italicized words and those in parentheses.
But the people you are mostly writing about read both and threw out some as being to Jewish or nonclerical .meaning they was not enough substance in the works that fit in with their way of thinking and were passed over and not put in.

For christians, the bible -is- god, and god -is- the bible.

Their 'logic' follows: The bible is true because God says so. God exists because the bible says so, repeat ad infinitum.

It's a closed system utilizing circular logic.

The more logic used to disprove it, the more they cling to their beliefs. It is irrational.

As for when the bible was written. The NT was put together between the 1st and third century AD, confirmed during the Counter-Reformation (about 1500-1600 AD - Council of Trent).

The OT is older, being a collection of books composed by the Jews prior to the Christian era.

Actually, the Bible, composed of 66 books penned by about 40 authors, was written over a period of about 1500 years. The last book of the Bible, The Revelation, was completed before AD 70.
