for the 14 year old i think between 10 and 11pm, and the 16 either 11 or no bed time. They should learn some responsibility on their own and know to go to bed early or else be sleepy the next day.

10-10:30 is a good bed time for week nights and for the weekend I don't know 11:00-12:00. And as for the phone after 9-:30. I personally wasn't allowed to receive or call anyone. I'm only 19 and I'm just now getting the privilege of being up until 11:00. You should let them go to their rooms at like around 10:00-10:30 but they can go to sleep when they feel like it. The point is that they are in their rooms and not on the phone, on the computer, or on the phone.

They still need a bedtime, otherwise they either won't be able to function properly for school, the next day, they'll sleep all of the next day or they'll be VERY cranky the next day. On a school night (whether they are good about catching the bus or not) An average bedtime should be around 10:30, no later than 11:00. On the weekends, Midnight should be the cut- off point.
Chances are, the other parents don't know the kids are still on the phone, or they don't want to fight with them about it. I'd almost bet that they don't or won't have very good grades. Good luck with it.

When school is not in session, 11 pm for the 14 year old (at least in her room, no phone use), and the 16 year old no later than 1 am (make her feel mature by letting her talk on the phone. That's a teenage girls favorite pasttime! School nights, you rule!! 10 pm is a great time, because teenagers need that sleep for the next days schooling. Who cares what other parents are doing. They are not your measuring stick. You are!

well, it all depends.
first, treat it on an individual basis.
if either one of their grades are low, then that person should be sent to be earlier. Indeed, I'd say around 10:30.
But if their grades are fine, then they can stay up later.
I'd honestly say the average bedtime for a 16 year old (give it, i am one hah), is 11:00. Also know that at our age our hormones are still all out of wack and causes unusual insomnia often. I, and many of my friends, could have had a very long day and be extremly tired and ready for bed. We'll go to bed at ten, and not fall asleep until midnight--that's just our biology at this age--adults have a hard time understanding that. And, no, were're not on any kind of drug, nor do we consume outrageous amounts of caffeine hah.
If the 14 year old is still in middle school, I'd say ten is a good bed time.
For a high school kid, around 16, I'd say not until atl least 10:30. I for one hardly do any kind of extra activities, nor am i in tons of honors/ap classes, but i'm still usually up until around 9:30-10:00 doing homework.
So, yea. Just do three things to decide.
-Watch their grades in alignment with their sleep patterns
-Watch their happiness and awakeness (how alert or groggy they are)
-If you can, tell what time they really end up falling asleep anyway.
Overall, though, I'd say shoo them off to their rooms between 10-10:30. Allow the sixteen year old a few extra minutes if she wants--trust me, we appreciate it haha.
Also, if either of them want, let them have their radio or cd player on when they go to bed. That can both put you to sleep and keep you awake. It just depends.
Oh, and that advice was for school nights/weekdays only. On the weekends, let them stay up as late as they want, and then sleep in the next day. that's always fun and a cool way to unwind from a week of school.
eh, yea..

I wouldn't necessarily assign a "bedtime" for teens their age, but I think that it is reasonable to expect no phone calls after 9 or 10 pm. They are a little old to try to force a "bedtime" but I know when I was 16 I had to be off of the phone before it got too late and my curfew was about 9 or 10.

I think 10 or 10:30 I think that you and your teenagers need to make a deal. like If you go to bed at 10 on school nights you can stay up as late as you want on weekends as long as you don't disturb anyone who is sleeping! Or some sort of deal that is fair to all of you!

When I was a teen I didn't have a set bed time, however I couldn't be on the phone past 10pm. My parents allowed me to decide when I went to bed with the condition that the time I awoke would not change. I was expected to be up at 7:30am regardless of the time I went to bed. I quickly learned that going to bed around 11pm allowed me enough time to sleep.

Well I'm 16 and on school nights my parents want the TV off at 11:00. They say if I wanna read in my room or somthing after that is fine. So I think that they should have to at least be in thier room with the TV's off around 11:00.
