i also have my lip pierced, New body piercings should be cleaned once or twice daily with a gentle cleanser such as an all natural lavender soap. Check the ingredients- it must contain actual lavender to work. Lavender fragrance will not work. You can substitute an anti-bacterial cleanser such as Dial or Satin, however, these are not as effective and the harsh chemicals may even irritate your piercing.
Your piercing should not be cleaned more than twice daily- to do so will interrupt the healing process.
Rinse or soak the area with warm water/saltwater* to soften any secretions that have dried outside the opening of the new piercing- soak for at least 3 minutes. Use a cotton swab to remove the softened secretions from the jewelry and openings (rotating the swab away from the body). Lather cleanser on the outside of piercing, getting the area good and clean. Once all debris is cleaned from the jewelry and openings, rotate the ring through completely several times to clean the inside of the new piercing. DO NOT FORCE THE RING TO TURN!! If it does not rotate, soak it longer. Do the same rotations under clean running water to remove all traces of the cleanser, which can act as an irritant if not thoroughly rinsed off. Pat dry with a clean paper towel.
This should be the ONLY time your ring is moved through the new piercing. Never handle the new piercing or jewelry when you are not cleaning it. Do not add topical ointments such as triple antibiotic (ie: Neosporin) or vitamin A & D- they will not allow the piercing to get the oxygen it needs to heal. Do not use other cleansers/antiseptics such as alcohol, peroxide, iodine based soulutions (ie: Betadine), or EPSOM salt as these are too harsh for a new piercing and may trigger irritation.
hope this helps , these r the exact instructions from the shop who pierced mine. GOOD LUCK.

It may taste kind of bad, but, if you have a hoop, take a cotton ear swab soaked in paroxide and swab the hoop then rotate it back and forth through the piercing.
A post is a little different, expose one end of the post then swab that end of the post while spinning it slowly and moving it back and forth through the piercing, this helps to allow the paroxide to penetrate into the puncture do this to both ends of the post, alchohol burns, you can also apply an antibiotic ointment to the ring or post which it may be after dis-infecting the puncture.
the steps should be done twice a day, or more often- preferably after you eat and befor bed and befor going anywhere.

peroxide, bactine, neosporin..these things are NOT for a puncture wound, do not use them. there was a good post above for the care but there is no need to turn the jewelry and this can infact damage the tissue so just dont do it. use the sea salt as a rinse after eating, drinking, smoking...using to much listerine can and will dry out the piercing

It is recommended to use plain antiseptic mouthwash mixed with water (one part water; 3 parts mouthwash) every time anything comes in contact with the piercing, after eating, smoking, drinking, etc.
No alcohol or beer for a couple weeks.

i know this isnt the same thing, but when i got my belly button pierced, they told me to use some saline stuff.. you can find it at like a walgreens or something like that, but it really worked well for that piercing, so it should work for your lip too...
