My 20 year old daughter is on dialysis waiting for a kidney transplant. We have been trying to find a living donor. kidney's major function is producing urine. you can live with only one kidney. if you are in renal failure or your kidneys are pretty much on their way to shutting down all the fluid that is taken in and absorbed by your body has to go somewhere. body forces it into other tissues and it collects..... if you are upright it goes straight to you legs and then eventually to your lungs where your body will literally drown it's self. hopefully you get medical attention and this does not happen as it can be prevented with dialisys

my wife had nephrotic syndrome and her body was swelling up due to the kidneys not functioning normal, she is ok now. this is just one of many side effects.
