I have to believe that catholics are Christians. I was brought up a catholic. We believe in God and Christ and the Holy Spirit. and even though I am no longer practicing catholic, I am definitely a Chirstian.
But some how in the early 300's Catholicism went wrong. Or I should say the Catrholic church was misguided. They changed the bible. Decided what should and shouldn't be included. Decided that mary Magdalane should be represented as a whore .. . That the gnostics were an evil that could not be tolerated.
Greed and politics, which just goes to show they were human too.
But yes, catholics are Christians.

No Catholics aren't the first Christians as some have stated, the early followers of Christ are the first Christians. Catholicism wasn't formed for a few hundred years after that. They go against many fundamental beliefs of Christianity. They are idolaters for one, they worship statues of Mary, Jesus, Saints, and popes. They've tortured and killed millions in the past. The Ten Commandments strictly forbid idolatry and murder. If you define Christians as any group that believes in Christ then I guess they are. But they operate more like large corporation to me.

Yes, I have to agree.
I have many years learning and listening to Catholics and the Church itself.
Get ahold of a Catholic bible. Read Exodus chapter 20 verses 1-17. These are the verses that God gives us the ten Commandments.
Now go to the back of the Catholic bible, where it puts the ten commandments in simple 1.2.3 format.
You will find that they have totally left out the commandment to not make any graven image or idol and not to worship or bow down to it.
They took the last commandment and separated it into two, and still didnt put that whole commandment in even then.
So, while they have left Exodus intact, they encourage Catholics only to read misselettes and simplified versions of very absolute rules.
Also in the back of the Catholic bible, there is a dictionary of Catholic terms rather than biblical terms. Here is one of my favorites.
Sunday: The first day of the week, also called the Lords day. According to the laws of the Catholic Church it is to be kept holy, attendance at Mass is obligatory, and no servile work is to be done that day.
Pretty amazing when I see the church open for mass on Saturday, so the Catholics can get Mass out of the way, and party Saturday night, and sleep in on Sunday.
This is just a start, Reading a Catholic bible and the additional goodies is an eyeopener I bet even for a Catholic. It was for my husband.
He is now saved for real, and that I am very thankful for.

I don't know about "correct", but my answer is what I believe. The Catholic church created a lot of rules, regulations, routines that were not from the Word of God (or the Bible), Paying coins to release souls from hell, praying to the virgin Mary (when the Bible clearly states to pray through Jesus), etc. That's why Martin Luther chose to leave the preisthood and make changes in the church. Catholics believe in Jesus, but they are not following the Word of God completely when the church adds to the Word of God.
Sorry if I offended anyone - I was ask a question and I gave my opinion.

I believe that Catholicism has some incorrect views but Christianity is simply accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior and following Him. If you can do that and be Catholic then your considered a christian in my book as long as you don't do things the bible tells you not to do.

I agree that some Christians say Catholicism isn't Christian. I don't agree with the merit of their argument (or lack thereof).

Catholicism predates Protestantism as a sect of Christianity. If anyone is a splinter group it is the Protestants. But nah, they’re both Christian.

Um, I don't think that the apostles or the Evangelists of Jesus' time called themselves catholics, so I don't see how they are the first Christians. Anyway, catholic means universal, in the sense that they try to spread the message, but it is believed that the church itself has lost it's first love, Christ. To be a Christian you must be a follower of Christ, hence CHRISTian. Is the catholic church a true follower of Christ? That lies within the person.

No, I don't agree. Catholics are the original Christians. All other Christian religions came from Catholicism.

No, every Christian denomination has some people who trust Jesus with all of their hearts and follow His every word and some who are just doing it to follow a tradition within a family or whatever the reason may be. Only God knows the heart...
