I was bitten while sleeping and I have no idea what kind of spider it was....This was months ago....It itched real bad at first, now I have an ugly welt on my hand that won't go away...The doctor said it was probably still full of venom and he could give me a cortizone shot if it was still hurting. ....It doesn't hurt unless I apply pressure to it now, but it bothers me because it is huge and ugly......Any suggestions?

i was bitten 15 years ago by a black spider from the banana tree in my yard in st martin french west indies i was bitten on the top of my rt foot at the junction where veins meet like a railroad station at first it was an itchy bump but over a week it turned into the most horrible black and blue weeping sore that i have ever seen. my husband had to carry me to the catholic hospital on a sunday afternoon my temp was 103 and my foot looked like a baloon the sister took a pair of forceps and ripped the scab off the sore and i nearly passed out but i remember seeing the river of pus red green and yellow draining from my foot. to this day i have the ugly scar there how do you think i found out what had bitten me well we had a pretty shower curtain in the bathroom it was turquoise with black flowers over it and there was the spider dead but adhered to the curtain like it was part of the pattern. my husband put it in a jar took it to the hospital and they prescribed me medication for two weeks that cured the infection but to this day my rt foot is fatter than my left and the scar from that spiders mouth is clearly there to see why dont you get a topical medicine like mederma or cortisone and rub it in every day also you may need another course of antibiotics like the one they used on my wound called cephachlor 500mgm one capsule two times a day for 14 days this medicine was from france so in america i would guess it was two antibiotics in one ie cephachlor or keflex and the other i am guessing would be chloromycetin 250mgm. i am certain a good infectious disease man would know the right med to give you because the infection is still there and will continue to resurface if you dont treat it agressively. what memories your question has revived i hope i have helped you in some way. also after this bite you are going to be allergic to other bites so you must carry an epi pen with you at all times please mention this to the doctor good night and take heed it is your life okay so protect yourself.

Go back to the doctor and have him/her test for a staph infection. They are regularly misdiagnosed as spider bites. You may need to see an infectious disease specialist to get the correct diagnosis. You will be prescribed antibiotics if it is staph.

For the time being, use a warm compress (washcloth soaked in warmish hot water) to sooth the area.
