This is very strange. I have followed golf for a long time. Any help would be appreciated.

Bad weather was in the forecast for today. That is why they went off of split tees and in groups of threes.

It's an "Invitational". Meaning all the golfers were invited to play. Since there is no cut, the same amount of players are still playing since day one. Thus, too many people, not enough daylight. Threesomes and starting on #1 and #10 takes less time. So there.

The main reason to do something like that has to do with the TV coverage time. They want to make sure the tournaments ends while on live TV. Also other sporting events can force them into a situation like that.
