lucky for you i'm a nurse!!!!
no cure.....here's the 411:
there's two types of herpes: herpes virus I and herpes virus II. type I is also known as a cold sore and is pretty common. type II is the kind that you get on your genitals/genital herpes. both types are very contagious and many people don't know they have it. once you get it, you just take meds to keep the virus from flaring up and causing blisters on your body but you'll always have it and can pass it on to others.

and in response to johnsnotsobad...it's not more common in blacks. one in four people have it, which makes it common in everyone....what a racist thing to say!!!

Remember it's painful, but you'll live, blacks don't have the virus any more often than anyone else and no there is no cure at this time. The herpes simplex virus (HSV) (also known as Cold Sore, Night Fever, or Fever Blister) is a virus that manifests itself in two common viral infections, each marked by painful, watery blisters in the skin or mucous membranes (such as the mouth or lips) or on the genitals. The disease is contagious, particularly during an outbreak, and is incurable with present technology. An infection on the lips is commonly known as a "cold sore" or "fever blister". These are sometimes confused with canker sores or Apthous ulcers which have a similar appearance; these appear inside the mouth and are not caused by the herpes simplex virus.
I have used L-Lysine (OTC) for years and it seems to help the virus from acting up. Also stay away from stress if possible. There is a lot more information on this at; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herpes_simplex_virus

I just read robyn o say so. Sweetie you need to check your sources. I have 5 children all born vaginally, from the age of 22 to 29, no of them have ever shown any signs of either simplex I or II. I have had the virus for over 35 years, I've lived with the pain, and I've done a heck of a lot of research on the matter and follow it continuously.

I got clinically diagnosed with herpes simplex virus (type 2) about five years back, when I was still in college and had a dumb one-night stand. I know a lot of girls will declare this, but I swear I had certainly not done that sort of thing before. I just made a massive mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. After all, who wants to go out with someone that has sores around her you-know-what? But since a friend shared this movie https://tr.im/1TIDC everything changed.

Not only was I able to remove all traces of the herpes virus from my body in less than 21 days, but I was also able to start dating once more. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so blessed to write that just a week ago, in front of everyone in a crowded cafe, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This method provided the chance to be happy and experience real love. Now I want to help you too by sharing this with the whole World.

Herpes is like a tattoo you keep it forever! Wait you can always have a tattoo lazed off.
There are two kinds of herpes virus, Herpes Simplex I & Herpes Simplex II . It lies dormant in your central nervous system and resurfaces whenever your system is challenged. Fortunately as time passes you have fewer break outs. You can spread it before you know you have it and condoms are the only mildly effective preventative. Some of the bad news. It can cause early dementia through lesions on the brain, you can give it to yourself by having virus on your hand from a lesion on your body and rubbing you're eye. You do not want to get it in your eyes it can make you blind. Herpes can make a baby blind if delivered vaginaly. Women who have herpes must have C sections.
Worst of all it can increase your chances for catching HIV/AIDS. There are antivirals that shorten out breaks and make them fewer but there is no cure or vaccine.
Wrap that rascal!
To nyc princess & johnsnotsobad
you are both wrong. nyc shame on you. your a nurse, you should know better. Black women have a higher incidence not because they are more promiscuous, but because of socioeconomic reasons & more uncircumcised black men. FYI in the muslim religeon it's the girls who get circumcised not the boys.
doubt me? check out cdc it's a great resource.

Herpes is a virus, not a disease, so there is no cure. It can be caught from all kinds of sex, so know your partner. If you think you may have herpes, see a doctor ASAP! You should find out because you wouldn't want to spread the virus to others.
