does your son know about aa?[alcoholics anonymous]they're a really good support group, who can help him to quit drinking.
also,if he can't afford medical treatment, does he have other options?is there any way he can get financial assistance?like welfare or something, that can provide him with healthcare insurance?
people quit drinking in different ways.some have to hit ''rock bottom,''before they decide to get help.some go to rehab, detox, and halfway houses.some see a drug and alcohol counselor, some go to aa,etc. it depends on the person.different things work for different people.
look into what's available in your area, regarding social services.explain the problem of lack of funds, and ask what options you have,if anyone can help,or not.
i hope this helps some.good luck to you and your son.he's taking a really brave step,by making this decision.i hope things work out.

First off dear...how long has he bee drinking.....the best way, I feel is just from determination to quit...perhaps a doc could help with an anti-depressant medication...it helps....AA help....but don't go for the intervention stuff,,,that can seem to him as the whole world is ganging up on him...have questions.....perhaps I can help...been there, done that

I work with recovering addicts and have a son and brother who are alcoholics.

He will need to go to a detox centre first so that he can be detoxed safely.

There is a Christian recovery programme online called Overcomers_through_Christ which is a twelve step programme.

Here is the link to the group

There is also an AA group online

Hope this helps
