I found a free 1 month old female in my local newspaper and was wondering if they are good with kids. I have a little girl and she loves dogs, and would be really good with one.

It depends on what else the female is mixed with. A well socialized chow can make a great family pet! As it is with most breeds, you can't make a judge of a puppy because of its breed ancestry. I have had many many different breed of dogs, one that i will always remember was a chow and lab mix. I had her from a small pup and she was great! Chows can be very willful but very protective. It will be good that your child be raised with the puppy. They are often a one person dog but family loyal too. My chow mix was actually my sister's but as i was the one to take care of her and all I was that one person. If you want the puppy to be her dog, then have her feed and care the dog for the most part. Also a month old is abit young for a puppy to be taken away from its mother, its generally around 8 weeks that would be the best time for a person to seperate the pups from their mother. Of course not many people do that, I myself even had been given a four month old puppy, it will just ensure the bond between child and dog. Hope I was of help to you and if you have any more questions of the breed just ask and if i know i will answer!

At 1 month of age this puppy is much to young to be leaving her mother!!! If you're thinking of getting a chow mix you need to find out mixed with what. Chows are not necessarily a good breed to have with kids, but like any breed, they are individuals.

You really need to look into this carefully and meet BOTH parents of this puppy and check out their temperaments very carefully. Another consideration would be the age of your little girl and whether or not she knows how to treat dogs.

You didn't say what the Chow was mixed with, so it's kind of difficult to answer your question. Before you decide, you should definitely research the Chow Chow breed. They are notorious at being stubborn, obstinate, and require extensive socialization training. You will also need to research the other breed as well so you'll have an idea of exactly what you'll be dealing with.

Chows are good with kids, as long as you introduce them while puppies. It depends on what she's mixed with. My grandparents had chows, and we could beat the snot out of them(we were little and thought it was "playing") and they wouldn't hurt us. But everything depends on that particular dog, how it has been treated and everything. I'd call them up, and see if you can take it, and if it doesn't work, bring it back to them.

I had a chow/lab mix before. Mine was hyper active and crazy. He actually started to go crazy and was mean to other people and animals. I took him to the vet and he told me that is how chows act. Some of them go crazy very easily. Maybe thats not true but it happened with mine. He got to the point where I had to take him to the pound because he started being me to me as well and running his head into things..he really went crazy.

I had a chow/ cow dog mix a long time ago. The dog was wonderful with us, but once he got grown, he was so overly protective that he would run to the neighbors if we were outside and bark and growl at them ferociously. I ended up giving him to a man with a ranch.

My son and daughter-in-law just had to have their 13 year old Chow Mix put to sleep and she was the best dog all her life. She was wonderful with my grandkids and that's saying alot with my grandson. She was very protective of the family.

My parents had a Chow Mix. I didn't trust him around strangers but he was loyal to them. They can be tempermental so I think it depends on what it is mixed with.
