Spanish is very useful in the US obviously. There are also many Spanish speaking countries where knowing that language would help you.
French is also spoken in many African countries as well as in Europe and even in a couple places in S. America.
What do you want to do? Which language interests you? Spanish is the most important language if the person standing in front of you only speaks Spanish. If on the other hand the person standing in front of you only speaks French... then French has become the most important language.
Both will help you. Both are useful.

Unfortunately French is a dying culture and language. Of course this will not happen within a few years, but both are irreversibly losing importance in our globalized world.
Spanish, on the other hand, is spoken by hundreds of millions of people (Spanish, Latin-Americans, Hispanics) and will be around much longer.
Judged by that reality Spanish is more "important".

You learn a language if you gonna use it and will be beneficial for your future. French may be a glamorous and a pretty language but in reality you would only need it if you go to France or Canada. Spanish definetely in the USA is more useful, first of all because latinos are the first minority and second of all because its the most used language in the world after english, and just because of the economic power of the english language in the business and media, but spanish have more speaking countries than english.

Haha, not around here. Spanish is a way better choice to learn. As for other countries, I wouldn't know. English is more important to know than French worldwide, though.

It depends where you plan on speaking to people. In California it is very handy to be able to speak spanish. In Europe I found French seemed to be the best choice. After english, that is. English is spoken almost everywhere.

According to the UN, French is the second (or third, i forget) most spoken language of the world. I would say French is more important globally but as far as locally, it depends on where you live.
