Because it's absolutely true. He came to open up to us the way to Paradise, which is the heavenly kingdom - the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. This is in fact the remission of sin - just like we say that when someone is healed from cancer they are in "remission". Christ came to heal us, to show us the way back into a right relationship with God, to destroy death and the power of the devil, and to establish the Church, preparing us for the coming of the Holy Spirit. These are just a few of the things He came for.

However, we have to want to cooperate and follow Him in order to receive these gifts that He came to bestow upon us. And it is not just an instantaneous thing, but a life-long process - a process of purification, illumination and sanctification.

Talk to a cancer survivor and see if they feel that their "remission" was instantaneous and over and done with all in one shot, or if they feel that they are still in a process of remission for the rest of their lives? Of course, this is just an analogy, but it makes the point...

Because He did! The remission of sins does not mean that we are perfect or sin free. It means that we have been "declared not guilty" before God. Yes, Christians still make mistakes...we still sin. We are physically imperfect just like every other person in this world. However, when God the Father looks upon those who put their faith in Jesus Christ, all He sees is Christ's perfect atonement (i.e. - the remission of sins).

You answered you're own question.

Remission, release from. Jesus came to release us from the bonds of our sins, to release us from the punishment that comes as a result of our sins.

Jesus blood on the cross cancelled the debt of our sins .. .

If we whole heartedly and honestly ask for forgiveness of our sins, Jesus will release us from the terrible price that must be paid from the commission ocf our sins. . .

Most Christians have no idea what they are saying when they quote that passage.

The sins that you repent of no longer exist. it is as if you never committed them, if you repent of them.
