I had thought it was called a uvula.. (not sure on spelling) but when I called it that at the doctor's office, the nurse looked at me like I was insane, and said all snotty "You mean eppiglottis" (not sure on spelling again.) So what is it!?

Wow.. I kind of want to go back and rip that nurse a new one. She was very rude to me and acted like I was a complete moron.. scary too.. a nurse doesn't know her stuff.

Epiglottis = Covers the entrance of the larynx when one swallows preventing food or liquid from entering the airway.
Uvula = small structure extending and hanging from the soft palate in the back of the throat!

It's the uvula. The nurse is wrong.

I've always thought it was called your uvula. My friend took physiology last year and taught me that. I could be wrong, or the nurse could be wrong. Hopefully it's me, because if the nurse doesn't know her physiology...I fear for whoever works with her.
