Add to the above answer, squats and lunges, exercises for the legs, particularly the quads. The height isn't as impotant as the landing, make sure that the landing is balanced, or you will not be able to transition to the next move.

I don't think you should hold your breath when you jump you could hurt yourself more. If you want to jump better you can do several exercising activities to help increase this stamina. Try jumping over something repeatedly, or set up an opstical course where you have to jump on one leg then switch legs at the end. or you can do what the ninja did and grow a bean stalk. You can jump over it every day repeatedly and you'll jump higher as it grows. If you touch the stalk when you jump, you start all over. As someone suggested, frog jumps are good too. But be careful not to hurt your joints...especially the knees. Stretch before you do anything extensive.

Just keep jumping as long as you can, until you can't anymore. I'd step up day by day but the hundreds, doing frog jumps, basically touching your hands to the ground and then jumping as high as you can, to just plain jump rope tippy-toe hopping. I'd practice all height jumps in between as well, stopping and knee level, ankle level, waist level and the like. Start at one hundred of each style of jump and simply go up day by day. By 2 weeks you'll barely be able to walk, you'll look and feel cripple but once you heal, I can guarantee you some halfway decent jump heights. Moreso than that if you keep it up with more practice when you're better and able to jump again.

Apart from all the above and increased leg strength exercises, I'd recommend wearing leg weights between training sessions. After you get used to carrying the extra weight and can jump with the leg weights on you'll feel like you can fly when you take them off. I used to wear them before competitions and take them off just before a fight. The difference is serious. Be well.

There are special sports shoes that force you to walk on your toes. They force you calf muscles to develop. You should look into those. If they does not work, watch Karate Kid.
