how much do dentist make?

i am thinking about becoming a dentist or doctor in the NAVY any advice which one is better?

did i say that it was all about the money penny no i didint so if you dont know dont answer, rudeness ahhhh

I make around $3000 a day as an implant dentist.

Dentist's earnings vary according to location, type of practice, and the individual's number of years in practice. Dentists who specialize, such as oral surgeons and periodontists, and those who work in large urban areas generally have the highest earnings. Nationally, according to ADA, the estimated median net income of general dentists is $177,340. A median net income of a specialist like an orthodontist is $300,000 or more a year.

I know Army, Navy and Air Force offers Health Professions Scholarship Program. It helps to pay most of your dental tuition and living expenses and in return, you have serve 3-4 years for them. Here is the link for more info:

First of all, dentists are doctors. Most of us have the degree of "D.D.S." (Doctor of Dental Surgery) or "D.M.D." (Doctor of Dental Medicine). Like physicians, we hold licenses to prescribe schedule II drugs (e.g. oxycodone and other addictive medications). Only podiatrists, perhaps, can do this as well.

Concerning income, it can vary dramatically. Obviously, dental specialists make significantly more...in some cases twice as much.

Even among general dentists, income can vary greatly. Owners of large group practices typically make a killing. Yet, some solo-practices do particularly well for various reasons. Regardless, you will rarely encounter a general dentist in private practice more than three or four years making less than $150k.

I would surmise that on average, general dentists in private practice make something over $200k a year.

If you work in the Navy, however, you won't make that. You'll work for much less. Of course, you will also have an easier patient load and won't have to deal with the business side of your practice.

I can tell you that for a dentist in private practice it depends on alot of things. They have to set their prices to make sure that they cover all their office expenses such as advertising, salaries, supplies, utilities, malpractice insurance, continueing ed, lab bills, bonuses and numerous other expenses. After all that is payed they can pocket the rest. So it really depends on how much over head they have and how high/low they set their fees.

I will say this, my dentist has a brand new Mercedes with a $1,800.00 a month car payment. But he works his butt off and deserves it.
