The fact that you ask this question shows that you are lacking something. What is it, grasshopper?

There is plenty of proof that God capital G is real! I've had things to happen to me that can not be explained otherwise. I think that some people don't want to be bothered with the many unecessary complications and conflict between different beliefs. It saddens me to know that we all can't be in agreement but hey. People like to invent new gods and things because of one thing they don't want to accept and here we go another "religion". I don't like to get into religion. I like to say I believe in God and his son Jesus and that Jesus sacrificed himself so we may have the chance to live and be saved.
What, do you believe that we just appeared out of no where on our own somehow. I know that there has to have been a time in your life where you were saved from an accident, or something else life threatening and were like, Oh my gosh I can't beleive that just happened! Stuff like that don't just happen and is not coincidence.
In every city, state, country, and region we have an order, a chain of command of people in charge. Don't you think somone is in charge of this earth, mars, venus etc? Who's in charge of the planets being aligned, or phtosynthesis, whos in charge of us being the perfect distance from the sun and moon has just enough gravity to keep us on earth? Think! It all is not coincidence and pop doesn't go the weasel. It did not happen just like that. This universe has an order and God is the One in charge.
Do some research. Ask questions to people on both sides. I believe in God but I try not ever down what others belive in. It is not up to me to judge.
Any more ?'s drop me a line or an email.
BTW... God bless you and I hope you discover what you are looking for. Key is when wisdom, knowledge and understanding knocks let open the door and let them in.

OK, I'm going to wade in on this one and answer a resounding YES!
If someone isn't happy with themselves and they are turning towards religion and God. They are searching for what is missing intheir life and they are turning towards the right direction. God can, and if you listen, will teach you so much about youreself and what is missing in your life. All you have to do is listen with an open heart.

I am happy with myself, and my faith in and relationship with God adds to my happiness. Yes, I do think that people who are searching for something better often turn to religion. But religion won't make anyone happier, it's a counterfeit for a relationship with God or whatever you want to refer to Him as.

Yes! If you face reality, no one on this Earth is truly happy. We simply aren't strong enough to handle the evil in this world on our own. That's why we need God. He is the only way to true happiness. If you don't have a relationship with God and you think you are happy, you are only fooling yourself.

No I do not. What I think is that people who constantly post questions slamming religion and those of us who believe are not happy with themselves. Why do you care what the rest of us believe?

No. but i think it's for people who are unable to reach a superior knowledge about themselves and the rational complexities of the world. Show them a book of Nietze, im sure they wouldn't understand. generally speaking of course. Whilst others simply lack the capacity of affirming themselves in a different way from their cultural environment.

Yeah - people that turn to religion are usually desparate for something to tell them their place in the world. It really is a type of mental illness.

No. Counselling, be it with a professional, or even a friend or family member, is the best for that.
