One type, it was filled with water, had a hose attached to it with a small plastic unit with holes in it, that the female inserted into her vagina. The bag was held or attached high enough so the water would flow into the vagina, thus cleansing the female.
To this day, America, for the most part, does not include a toilet fixture for females, that is common all over Europe.
It is called a bidet. It is fashioned like a toilet only the water may come up from the basin, or a faucet is mounted so that when the female sits straddling the bidet, the faucet faces her,
This supports, carefree, simple, effective body cleansing.
Many of today's bathrooms have a urinal for the male, but the more import bidet, is never considered for the hygiene of the female.

are you being serious? ok just for the hope that you are honestly curious and not just being a douch bag, i'll tell you. ok, do you know what the old hot water bags look like? they were usually red rubber with a plugged end to fill with hot water. well, you could get an attachment for the hot water bag that made you able to use it to douche. it was usually a skinny long hose with a nozzel on the end to be inserted into the vagina. usually you could get different nozzels for douche or enema.you just filled the hotwater bottle up with what ever you wanted to use (in the old days it was a mix of water and a bit of vinegar).then you hung the bottle up on the shower rod and use gravity to pull the water down through the tube to clean yourself. i remember seeing my moms when i was growing up and fiqured it out.
