How do you put a price on a beloved pet? Is there a point when a dog is just a dog and it's just too much to spend on an animal.

My dog has bladder stones. 3yrs ago I spent $1000 to have them removed. They are back again and this time in a worse position and will be another $2000 with the likely hood they will come back again. The dog is just 6yrs old. I have the money and it won't bankrupt me or anything but is it too much to spend on a pet?

If you cant afford it, you cant afford it. It sucks, but its true. You cant take care of a pet if your bankrupt.

You can apply for a Lifeline Grant at www.uan.org. Its an organization to help people like you afford pet healt care. Its worth a try. If you cant get the grant, you can at least consider donating to help someone else in need.

You can also go to handicappedpets.com. There are support groups there that might know other sources of help.

Good luck. God bless you. Most people would have put their pet down a long time ago.

That's a question only you can answer. If your pet is so beloved, you're right, how do put a price on that?

I understood that with the proper diet or even a special diet stones can be substantially minimized. Have you discussed this with your vet?

What does it matter what others think if you spend the money to keep your beloved pet around longer? What's important is what you think and feel you must do.

My beloved cocker died of cancer, I would have given, borrowed and stolen all the money I could to keep him alive, but I didn't have that option of saving his life, if only for a little while. You on the other hand do. I trust you will make the best decision for you.

No it isn't at all to much to spend on a pet. It just depends if you are willing to pay for the care he needs. Especially when the cost gets to be that high.

I say if you can afford to pay for the surgery I'd have it done. If not have him put down.

I would also check on recovery?, will they return? take all that into consideration before making your final decision.

No. If you can afford to save the live of a family member wouldn't you do it? No price is too high to pay for a pet you really love.

There is a pet health insurance. It helps defray costs.

Below are a few links to different sites I have found.

Good Luck! I hope things look up soon!

No pet is free. We have spent more than you can imagine on our pets (cats, dogs, horses) but they are worth every penny.

More importantly than the $ (since you said you could afford it) is what quality of life does the dog have and what quality of life will it have after treatment. Can you put a price tag on that?

No price is to much. People take in dogs knowing they are going to have medical needs. They need to pay for them no matter what they are. If you can't do this, then you don't need to get animals!!!!

No...love and companionship is worth it when you can afford it..you knew what you were getting into when you bought it and decided to keep a pet......

No more than 3 times what you paid for the critter.
Sucks to be free.

that is a tough decision. I think vet charges are way, way over the top. Have you tried looking for lost cost vet clinics?
