I have been donating for decades now (I am on my 13 gallon mark). But recently, the Red Cross changed the rules on number of donations without bothering to tell anyone at the collection centers. I have been declined twice in the past two months because I have given "too much"! Both times with appointments confirmed with the collection center staff!
I give those idiots one more shot at it, and then I will SELL my blood to the hospital instead of donating it. This is a commodity to the frickin' Red Cross, and if they are going to treat donors like this, then they can either start paying me a share of the money they collect from the end users, or I will "donate" somewhere that will.

Some people like me cannot donate. I cannot for two reasons
1. they blow my veins every time, I've always had bad veins. Too bad too because I'm 0- meaning I can give to anyone of any blood type
2. My blood iron is too low, I'm anemic
To the answer below... Why not? Children die every day, adults die everyday waiting for an organ. I just don't understand why you would be against it?!
But I still think if you can you should! If not, support those who do or volunteer at a blood bank near you!

thanks for the info.
remember that blood can't sit for long and so it gets thrown out.
also you need to let people know that not everyone who signs up is able to give blood.
and remind people that they can't give more frequently than a few months, and that giving blood too often can make you anemic.
It is a great thing to give blood. They test the blood for std's beforehand so if there's something wrong that the blood doesn't get distributed. They also tell you your cholesterol count.
I heard somewhere that once a woman stops having her periods that giving a pint of blood is a good thing to do for their body.

My teacher told me that men should definitely donate blood because they need to loose iron to be healthy. Women do that naturally during that time of the month.

The world has already sucked the life out of me , I see most people as vermin, leeches and a waste of space, so the last thing I would want to do is give my blood to anyone
