Every person is different.

My body's usual reaction when I get sick is to have my temperature drop. It will go from 98.6 degrees F down to 97 or 96.5 degrees F. So when I get a cold, I literally get cold!

As a contrast, when I get flu my temperature will rise only a little bit. Anything over 100 degrees, and I feel absolutely miserable. If my temperature should rise over 102 degrees I start to hallucinate! (There were pink elephants running around between the pine trees in the back of my pick-up truck once.)

But generally the doctors will mean that you are showing signs of a low grade fever at 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Fever may develop at various speeds and may reach heights ranging from 100.4 degrees to 104 degrees or higher. Fevers are either acute (short duration with a definite endpoint) or chronic (recurring repeatedly over time). Because fever is a natural and healthy response to illness, it typically does not need to be treated except to relieve a child’s discomfort. Those are considered to be high grade, since your body core is 98.6 anything from that to 100.4 is considered low grade. From a moms perspective.......... If this is helpful let me know. thanks

For adults, usually 101. But it also depends on what your normal temperature is. Not everyone is 98.6 - some normally run higher, some (like me) normally run lower (97.2). Pretty much they're looking for about a 2-3 degree temperature elevation.

Normal body temperature is 98.6F. 100.5F is considered a fever but you can manage it at home with medication and very good care now a temperature of 107.6F causes brain damage.
