you might spatter the molding if you paint the trim with another color. If you use just one color for both, it doesn't really matter. Hovwever, you can cover more faster with a roller so you should use it first to get as close to the moldings as you can,

The Walls that way if you get some paint on the trim you can cover it up and it wouldn't be as noticable as a different color on the raised part of the trim

First paint the major part of the walls. Come back and paint up to the trim. Then after it is dry, tape the edges to paint the trim. Truthfully, it coul be done either way, just remember to tape first!

The trim. It's alot easier to tape off the trim and then paint the walls than it is to tape off the walls and paint the trim.

I have been painting for several years, i prefer to do the trim first, and cut the wall color in, i don't use tape, but clean cut in lines take alot of practice and patience, so you might want to paint the trim let it dry and mask it off

Paint the walls first (if using eggshell paint be sure to paint walls one at a time ,cut it in and then roll, by doing walls first it makes it easier to do this quickly and it is crucial to preventing hatband or sheen lines around a room to roll to wet cut in areas) then tape and paint trim. By doing this last you get a much straighter line when taping especially on baseboards because you don't have to worry about paint running behind the tape as much especially on baseboard and chair rails because the tape is above the paint and we all know paint don't run up.
