No, but it would be more humane to try to capture it and have it put to sleep. It probably affects your dad more then he lets on. Talk to your dad about it. It'll do you both good.

when dealing with a sick stray animal you never take matters into your own hands. You dad had no business killing the dog, because that is what animal control is for. You should have called animal control and they would have come and picked the dog up and taken him to the vet, and if he was terminal, they would have put him down in a humane way. What your dad did was wrong.

Best for the animal because to just think if you were that animal. Looking that way and proably was in a lot of pain and who knows it couldve been somethin spreadable. Another thing if he was comin after other animals its not good because you dont even know if the dog is rabid or anything to that extent. So no your dad did do the right thing the animals isnt in any more pain. Just think the dog will be happier.

No, sweetie, it wasn't cruel. If this dog had cancerous growths, etc., he was probably in a lot of pain. Your dad just put it out of it's misery. It's always sad when an animal dies, but sometimes it is necessary and is the best thing to do.

If the animal is unhealthy and unhappy, and you cant fix it to make it better, I think its better to put it out of its misery. I would want the same done for me. But if you can fix it and make the animal healthy and happy again, then you should fix it. People always put animals to sleep because they didnt want to spend so much to help it. I believe if you didnt have the money to help out the animal when he was sick, you shouldnt of had it in the first place.
This dog your talking about seemed extreamly unhealthy, and was probably not happy. He was also a danger to you and your other animals. It was probably best for it either to have been captured, or put down humanely. Dont feel bad. These things happen sometimes, and it sucks, but it happens. And dont be mad at your dad. He may not show it, but I bet he feels bad too. And he was only trying to protect you and your other animals, so forgive him.

I hope your Dad is a Vet and laid him to rest the appropriate way by putting him asleep through an injection. I cried when my dog died, we had him 16 years...he was like family...it broke my heart. It hurts any time an animal is put down. Now the dog is out of pain and off to heaven with the rest of animals there.l

If a dog healthy or not came on mt property and attacked my horses, i have no problem plugging a cap in its head...Your dad did the right thing....I have done it a few time myself, my horses are worth a heck of alot more to me than some stray dog.

That was a merciful act on your father's part and I understand how terrible it must have been for youYour dad did what he did to protect everyone and the animals in the neighborhood as the pitbull got sicker it would have began to get quuite agrrsesive and unpredictable.

If your dad hadn't put down that pit it would have killed your animals and possibly hurt you and your dad. Sometimes animals get mentally sick and have to be put down. Maybe instead of thinking about the image of the dog being killed, think about how happy and normal it is right now in heaven.

if u don't mind me asking, how did he do away with the pit bull? he should've taken him to the vet. the vet might have been able to save him. if not, the dog would've been euthanised. if your dad injected some sort of euthanasia solution into his veins, then that's okay. however, if he killed him in a violent, unnecessary matter (like with a shotgun for example) then he should be arrested for animal cruelty. this is my honest answer. however, if this happens again with another dog, then TAKE HIM TO THE VET FIRST.

Killed him how? I mean, if he took him to the vet and had him put to sleep, then that's very humane. But, if he just took a sledgehammer and bashed his little skull in, then I'd probably have him arrested. If the dog didn't suffer, then I'd say it was fine if he really did have major health problems.
