Wrong, wrong, wrong, there areplanes that are STC'd to use both diesel and mogas.
IMHO not a single one of the above has ANY idea what the hell they are talking about, they google something then try to come accross as if they are an expert..

100ll is 5.05 gal fat the field I fly out of
Jet A is 4.67
the airlines get a discount for bulk purchases and the gov't gives some a tax break so the price is different for them

You children are hopeless. Your parents buy you books and all you do is chew on the covers. pa28_180flyer and I are the only ones here so far that have any clue about the answer to this question. First of all, there are diesel aircraft in service. Not a lot, but enough to prove all you bonerheads wrong. Second of all, aviation fuel for piston-engine aircraft is somewhere around $4.50 to $5.00 per gallon, give or take. You'll have to do your own math because different aircraft have different fuel capacity. As an example, though, a typical small private plane like a Cessna 172 carries about 50-55 gallons of fuel. So it would cost you about 250 bucks to fill up. Since diesel is a little cheaper than gasoline-type aviation fuel, you might pay a bit less, but you get the idea. There are fuel stations at airports and fuel trucks that can come to the plane.

Hi Brittney! Answering the first part of your question is just some simple math. For example, if the airplane can take in 100 gallons of fuel, and the fuel costs $5 per gallon, then your answer is 100 x $5, or $500. Different airplanes have different sized fuel tanks so the cost of filling up any given aircraft will depend on how big its tanks are. Once you find out the size of the airplanes' tank, and how much the fuel costs, you can easily multiply the two numbers and come up with the cost. For your second question, almost all airports have fuel tanks, so airplanes refuel at the airport!

That depends upon the type of aircraft (small or big) you are flying. A smaller aircraft takes 200 liters of fuel while a bigger takes more than 200,000 litres of fuel. But it is not diesel. Diesel is heavier than gas and very high compression ratios hence is not used. Fuel cost ranges from 1.81~3.00 dollars per gallon......which means 200*2(average)=400 dollars for a smaller aircraft for a full tank. Further in a smaller aircraft you burn around 45~50 litres per hour, depending on the flying conditions...

Airplanes (modern ones) do not run on diesel, they run on aviation fuel or aviation kerosene. They fill up at airports, either from fuel trucks, or underground fuel bowsers. The cost for this fuel is billed to the airlines, whereas private planes either pay at the airport office, or have an account with the hub at which they are based.

First of all air planes do not run on diesel.
Its a form of high grade fuel 120% octane. Almost like kerosene.
A 737 will cost around 15,000.00 per fill up. The Russian plane that carries cargo.....about 100,000.00 to fill up.
The cost is usually around 1.50 per litre or roughly 5.50 per gallon.

Airplanes use aircraft fuel. They add fuel on the side of the plane, usually in the wings, where there are fuel tanks, whil the baggage people are taking off and putting on baggage and the cleaning crew is cleaning up the insides.

Aircraft fuel costs upward of $5.00 a gallon. Many larger jets take on thousands of gallons of fuel, so you can see it would be very expensive.

My company paid an average of $2.37 per gallon of Jet-A in July 2006. Theres a discount available when you buy in bulk and airlines buy a LOT of fuel, so they do not pay anything close to the rates that Sugnature or similar companies charge.

Planes don't use diesel. And it depends on how big the plane is.
