Take a deep breath and hold it as long as you can. Repeat several times.

Try rhythmic breathing or deep breathing.

Breathe into a paper bag.

Gargle.

growing up I used to get the hiccups so bad I had to leave the classroom - drinking water upside down always gets rid of mine - I have tried eveything in the book and this is the only thing that consistantly worked.

Bend over at the waist, then drink water from the opposite side of the glass that you normally would. It takes a few tries to get it right, but it still works for me!

Good luck!

What works for me without fail is take a large drink of water then bend over as far as possible so you are swalling upside down. Swallow once or twice. This puts pressure on the top of your pallet way in the back. Some medical reason behind it I couldn't explain. Also an old wives tale works for me too. Put a knife, yes a knife like a butter or steak knife in a glass of water for a couple of minutes then drink the water with the knife in it without cutting yourself. Seems to work everytime, couldn't tell you why.

I've heard that the teaspoon of sugar thing works.
Holding breath, drinking water and being frightened certainly don't.

Prove it! That ALWAYS does the trick! If you have hiccups.. tell somebody and have them say back to you to PROVE IT! That'll put you on the spot and startle you that you're being called a liar.. so you hesitate to prove it and you JUST CANT!!!! Because then you're trying to force yourself!

Well.. it works in my household and anybody that tells me they have hiccups.. I just say yeah right.. prove it.. and they usually laugh and can't prove it.. There ya go.. problem solved.. :D

Gotta try it at least.. it's fun and cures.. :D

This works for my family; stare at the dials on a watch or clock for exactly 60 seconds.

Place a teaspon of sugar on your tongue and let it melt while swallowing several times. If you are diabetic don't use this method because it may take several tries before it works.

i know you said no drinking water, but if you bend at the waist and look at your knees, and drink water upside down, it helps..it sounds weird and a little awkward, but it does work!

Eat a spoonful of peanut butter! (Assuming you're not allergic to it, of course.) It ALWAYS works for me!
