ok so like about 4 months ago i died my hair reaaaalllly light blonde, now my roots are long and i wanted to die my natural color back and never die my hair again. when i got the color that looked a lot like my roots, i used a couple test strands and didnt die my roots, but when it was finished it turned out gray..... ******* gray. it looks opposite form the box. so im wondering if i should just go do it pro or myself again and do a browner color. i was wondering how the profesional ppl would do it, if they would bleach my hair first then dye it back to my natural color (i tried doing that once and it turned out yellow, and 175 dollars.....) so do they always bleach it first before putting the color in? it is gray and i want to add a little brown.

The reason why your hair didn't go to the color on the box is because you were starting with a really light blonde. Hair dye is most effective when you are going for subtle changes. Like blonde to golden blonde or dirty blonde to light brown. That's the bad part about bleaching your hair. Once you strip the color, your roots grow in really dark and the hair dye will take much differently to the root of your hair than it does to the blonde part. I would suggest doing it gradually. Try making your hair a little darker blonde so that it takes really well. In a few months when you notice the roots again, go for a few shades darker. It will lessen the contrast between the dyed part and the root making the difference less noticeable.

Yes, they are going to bleach it. You have damaged the color folicles beyond repair and not only will they strip your hair of any remaining health, you will still be out a lot of money and probably a bad color. You damaged your hair in a way that the folicles are so "opened" from the hair shaft it won't hold the dye.

The only solution is to cut it off as short as you can allow yourself to have it and have it bleach. Let it grow out and slowly trim away the gray.

My mom had this happen, but her do turned green, not gray. Chop chop, sorry. :(

well, as far as I know, they always use a peroxide to color your hair, not bleach. I would go to a pro.....spend the money.......or just cut it all off?
