Is there no going back once you've seen it, or are they just ashamed to admit where they almost went?

There are some who do describe hell. At least the ones on those TV talk shows. They're just so dependable. LOL

A Pentecostal minister once told a story of a man who went to hell and he called up to his friend on Earth, "Harry, don't come, don't come!" So that was supposed to be "the" proof that hell exists.

As for Harry, I have no idea whatever happened to him. As for the person in hell, well let's just say that this particular minister had a very good imagination and he loved to talk a lot.

That's the only near-hell story I've heard. As for the other type, when people are ill or under the influence of medicine, the mind can play some pretty strong tricks ... especially if a person has been brain-washed to believe in these experiences. Have you ever known anybody who was on morphine? They imagine all sorts of strange things. The father of a friend thought that the hands on the clock were running up and down the wall while he was coming out of surgery.

The site below will explain it in more detail.

I think that a lot of it had to do with perceptions and beliefs.

Christianlity, and Catholicism in particular, stress the concept of Hell on their followers and, for some of these people, Hell does exist as some fiery place in the underworld with Satan doing his thing.

For those of us who do not believe in the Hell concept, it would not make sense to suddenly "see" this place in a near-death experience. Many of us believe that Hell is here on the planet Earth and we are here to improve in our spiritual growth as eternal beings.

Some of the interesting consistancies that people with near-death experiences relay when they recover include:

1. Walking though a tunnel towards a bright light (interesting foot note here is that children often describe walking across a small foot bridge toward the bright light - is is easier for them to understand).
2. Seeing loved ones waiting for them (and sometimes telling them to turn around because it is not their time).
3. Feeling weightless and unburdened.
4. Feeling total love - a feeling that does not exit here in this life.
5. Hearing the most beautiful music imaginable.

And finally, after they have been revived and stabilized, many of these people go through a depression period which could last days, weeks or months. They attribute their depression to the fact that the came so close to this perfect place and now they are back in the world of negativity.

Since Hell does not exist in most world religions, this would seem to be the reason that very few people describe it with their near-death experiences.

It is because a "near death" experience does not actually involve going to the afterlife. None the less, many people interpret what they experience as being the afterlife. And since it's not usually an unpleasent sensation, and no one wants to go to hell, they assume it was heaven.
It's worth noting that sometimes it is unpleasent, and many people don't interpret it as being the afterlife at all - sometimes it's traveling to the afterlife, sometimes it's an out of body experience, etc.

"Near death" experiences happen because of, basically, brain malfunctions. Given a lack of oxygen, or other things that would make it die, the brain tends to opperate incorrectly - thus, the person who resides in that body tends to experience some very wierd sensations (such as traveling down a tunnel, or hovering above their body, etc). None of the sensations described are actually happening any more than a dream happens.

Actually near death experiences of hell appear to be less common, but it may be because more people don't want to talk about that kind of NDE. But you can read more about them at the link below.

its because they dont actually go to heaven and back but they fantisise where they wish to be. its a defense mechanism the body uses to help relax the mind so the body and mind can focus on restoring and healing the person back to reality

We had a guy come to our church once, a local guy everyone knew. We are a small town. He clinically died and he did experience hell. He immediately converted to Christianity when he regained consciousness. Now he goes wherever anyone wants him to tell of his experience.
