Errr... maybe initially it starts as an interest, but for those who practice seriously it is because it makes them HAPPY. And they feel they have found some truth (more truth than they have found in other religions/spiritualities) in it. There is much more to it that spellcasting. People need to learn what witchcraft is really about before they go making judgements like this.

I've been a pagan most of my life because it is the right path for me. I was a pagan even before I knew what paganism is. It wasn't until I broke away from my christian upbringing, which I always rejected, that I was able to study and learn more about the path I had begun to walk long ago. I am very satisfied with myself, but I will continue to seek knowledge.
Blessings, W.

Sometimes, those that began to walk down the path of Wicca, or in my case, Witch.. do so for something more gentle.. more in touch with our surroundings, nature. There is much to learn about nature that isn't found in the textbooks.. I won't explain here..
But you can be one who understands and respects nature, and all the living plants, animals.. have knowledge about the wind, changing of the seasons, etc.. without walking down that path. Just open your heart.. and what you want, begin to see it in yourself.. with the way you go through your every day life..
There is much to be learned from the elders.. or every walk in life. If you're going to be reading books.. be mindful, as not all books were written for the sheer purpose of teaching, but of money.. there is some truth to everything..
http://www.susunweed.com has some wonderful herbal books.. for all phases of a woman's life. I give these as gifts..
I have walked long and hard.. and now am a Christian..
May your journey take you to the truth..

I am a christian and i have fooled around with occult before. i agree, it does make you happy in a sense. But happy as in exciting and fun and mysterious (yes, hidden) but it only leads you down the wrong path. I know people who have gotten in far to deep to be reached. One girl had a seizure like fainting thing while casting a spell and her face got all messed up because she was possessed for a few min. Now she looks diff and its really scary. Ive heard of a lot of people who mess around with that in their house let in demons and they haunt their house. It may sound cool at first but its really very dark and dangerous. And its not the fun, risky dangerous like skydiving, or skipping class, or something else like that. It is something that can ruin your like and get you possessed for eternity. It seems like you're in control in the beginning but you're NOT. Even if it is disguised with talk about nature and mother earth and stuff like that it is the same thing don't be fooled.
*also don't be fooled by people wo say its the same as christianity and buddhism and all those other religions, just more basic without all the "rules". It has nothing to do with them. it is not even close to christianity

This could be asked about any religion or sport for that matter. Why do anything??? Why even read or try learn anything about yourself and life? Are you not satisfied with yourself.
Personally i just want to know more about the universe, and to understand the universe you have to understand yourself.

Wrong idea of what we are about. It means that we do not believe in some of the same things the way that other religions do. we are more Basic in our beliefs. The Christians took allot of their symbols and church service rites from us to try and lure us away from our way of thinking to there's.And then have the Gall to call us devil worshipers.
We have no quarrel with what others wish to believe as most religions went through the same many Gods/goddess and patriarchal and matriarcal changes in there growth to what they are today. A belief in one God by whatever name.

a million) i grew to become into searching for what i presumed in for an prolonged time. Out of all of the religions I regarded at, Wicca grew to become into the only one that made even the slightest little bit of expertise, so i began discovering extra approximately it. i grew to become into very skeptical for an prolonged time, particularly approximately looking my god and goddess, yet in time I heard the calling, inspite of the undeniable fact that it grew to become right into an prolonged and painstaking technique. BTW, the religion is termed Wicca, no longer Wiccanism. 2) i think in a god and goddess, who're my consumers. I presume their are further deities accessible, with different persons serving them, yet considering I have not got any journey with mentioned deities i won't swear to their existence. i do no longer think in one splendid being. 3) you're under no circumstances compelled to do something in Wicca. i'm an Eclectic solitary. I practice my faith on my own. some human beings substitute into component of covens and then they have specific household projects to that coven, yet you does no longer connect a coven in case you had problems with its practices, and there is no longer something forcing you to stay might desire to something strange pop up. That mentioned, I certainly have under no circumstances seen or heard of any Wiccan ritual or different action that i might evaluate something close to "evil." Wiccan rituals are approximately issues like honoring, understanding, and communing with our gods. 4) I have not got any worry managing Christians or human beings of the different faith. maximum of my kinfolk is Christian. i these days attended a Christian funeral provider. no longer something incorrect in that. i do no longer frequently attend Christian centers because of the fact they carry no meaning for me: such centers are committed to a god with whom I have not got any connection. 5)i for my section have not got any afterlife ideals. the easy Wiccan believes in reincarnation. i hit upon the thought of heaven and hell to be unnatural and illogical.

I feel that most people that are follow an earth-based spirituality have a very healthy understanding of themselves and the world around them.
The word occult means hidden. I don't know where you were going with that part of your queston.
