i have the cable line inserted directly to the vcr and a line running from the vcr to the tv .. the cable works on the tv but i can't figure out how to record ..

You're working with some old school technology there. If you just have the coax cable (from the cable company) to your vcr then to your tv. You probably need to change to channe on our TV to 2,3, or 4 depending how your VCR is setup. On your remote there should be a TV/VCR button, when you press this it will activate the tv tuner on the VCR. On the VCR remote you can change the channels and select a channel then press record. When the program is done press stop.

There is a lot of more advance things you can do as in timed recording but that can get hard to explain depending on your VCR manufacture. But that will hopefully get you somewhere further.

wel dude u must be sure to mave connected the cable from ur tv to ur vcr in the vcr outlet "video in"
