LOL...very good question. I think it must be because you're less apt to throw a piece of meat out than you would an extra bun. Therefore, the breadmakers got together and decided it would be logical and easy for them to rationalize to sell in packages of one-half dozen or a dozen, not to mention the fact that it means extra revenue for them cause it forces the consumer to purchase an extra package of buns.

or u could buy 3 packs of hot dogs and 4 packs of buns and u'll have a match

This question is so old it should be in an archaeological dig. I've seen this question so many times I should be having nightmares from it. As a matter of fact, I just saw it a few minutes ago on the Mexican version of Answers (Respuestas). Get a life and get something original to talk about while you're at it.
