They say now a mans 2 month salary. I wouldn't want to see a engagement or marriage start off bad because the man felt obligated to spend 2 months money on a ring, instead of saving for other things after the wedding. Personal choice

I have no idea who came up with the two or three months salary thing. The engagement ring should come from the heart and should be what ever he can afford and what ever he wants to spend. If the girl doesnt like the ring then she is obviously with the guy for the wrong reasons. My ring was 1200.00 on sale for 850.00 and I love it. If he would have spent 200.00 I would have still loved it. The ring is a contract between two people saying that they will marry each other it is not a show piece.

In ths day in age most men want to impress a girl with a pretty ring woman on the other hand want the biggest rock. I believe the average price of a ring is around 10,000.

It depends on working class, and general expectations. Men usually know the expectations a woman has. My man knows that when he pops the question, I don't want a real diamond, I think it's a waste of money. Just as long as the gold is real so it doesn't break me out.

There is no "average amount". It depends on someone's income and what he is willing to spend. You sound like a fortune hunter.....I hope he has lots of money! If not, you sound like you will be disappointed......I feel sorry for him!

I'd say $1,000.00 to $1,500.00 is moderate but would get an acceptable ring. My engagement ring only cost $899.00 but it was on sale.
