Does anyone believe that the destruction of cities and villages in Lebanon, and the deaths of hundreds of innocent citizens including the use of cluster bombs on that population, will make a safer Israel, create more friendly neighbours?
Does anyone believe Bush when he says he will stay in Iraq till he has won the war, or his claim that the world is a safer place because he has removed Saddam Hussein? Is the US and Israeli policy of pre-emptive strikes the end of diplomacy; is it the new game of "lets have our own personal wars to solve our own domestic, security, popularity issues" and let the world community clean up and try to police the mess we leave behind? Or is it much more sinister even that that- that the world of power, affluence and control, is now creating ghettoes of poverty and further disillusionment and around the edges of the democratic bastions of civilization and that these will be copies of Afghanistan? Are we moving inexorably to Mad Max (movie)?

The short answer is, yes, obviously there are many who believe just that.
All logic and reason (let alone compassion and love for one's fellow man) aside, when you are afraid of something, the only way to be rid of your fear is to destroy the thing that causes it.
When you want something that belongs to someone else, the only way to get it is to take it from them.
When you are already convinced of your own superiority and righteousness, logic and reason are simply inconvenient, and unnecessary.
Sinister doesn't even begin to describe it.

If Islamic terrorists would not have crossed the border and kidnapped the Israeli soldiers this whole incident would not have happened. As far as Iraq is concerned, do you long for the good old days of Saddam's rape rooms, mass graves, gassing the Kurds with chemical and biological weapons. How about the way Sunnis and shites are killing each other. The reason for civilian casualties in these countries is because the brave terrorists use their women and children as human shields. as for as the "world community" is concerned, the U.N. has shown time and time again, it is unwilling to do anything but use harsh language. That did little to stop the massacres in Bosnia and Koscovo. Israel will never have friendly neighbors, because of blind hatred. What is your point? Do you think your tirade will change anything.

Being in denial about the intent of those that would do us harm is far worse than facing the threats head on and trying to protect oneself.
If America and Israel had not acted, it would have been tantamount to sticking their head in the sand and hoping that when the those that would do them harm came around they would not see them. This is not a way to live.
The terrorists have been at war for many many years. America finally woke up to that fact. And Israel had no choice than to do what it did. No matter what concessions Israel has given in the middle east, no matter what gestures of peace Israel has made, the response has only been overt actions of war and agression. Why should your enemy be constantly handed an olive branch, when all they do is throw the spear at you in return?
It is unfortunate that Israel was stopped by the West. By stopping, Hezbolah was emboldened. Therefore, they will continue their war because Hezbolah can now claim victory: they were able to hold off/survive a superior military force.
If America has the fortitude to hunt down terrorst threats wherever they may be, as Pres. Bush had stated in his state of the union address after 9/11, then no we are not headed toward a "madmax" world. However, if America continues down this path of half-measures due in large part to the lack of will power of the citizenry, then the enemy will be emboldened, continue to survive, and it may be possible that a "madmax" world may develop.
Unfortunately, the enemy is not easily identifiable, and use this to their advantage. They hide amongs "civilians" and blend. This leads to unfortunate incidents of collateral damage. The fact of the matter is that more of the muslim population needs to get involved in routing out the terrorists amongst them. The "civilians" are allowing themselves to be used. And until they stop allowing themselves to be used as camouflauge, then collateral damage will continue. The "civilians" need to take some responsibilty. If they do not, then they are as guilty as the terrorist in this war.
As far as your concern of a sinister plot is in the works. Sure. Its the illuminati... they're bored and are using their wealth to change the world for their entertainment...

Are the democracies of Israel and the US safer now that they have invaded other countries?
Thank God yes, we may have faced overseas flights flying into buildings.
If we can get rid of the God Damn Liberals in the US, we can go into IRAN and set a govt. up there to which will only leave Syria! maybe we could take it out for lunch. If not, if we are not allowed to we will be moving inexorably to Mad Max(the movie)!

Did you ever think that if terrorist cowards didn't attack other countries and then run and hide behind the skirts of old women and children in those countries Israel and the US are fighting that there would be no reason for Israeel or the US to be there and they wouldn't be? Blame Hezbollah and Hamas, not Israel!

Of course not.
You know it s true that the wars were purely for monetary and political gains.
How can these countries call themselves democracies if they invade other countries against the will of their own people and international community?
Something needs to be done before we live in world of 1984.[1]

Always remember that Hitler pre-emptively invaded Poland sixty seven years ago next Friday.
Look at what happened six years later.

I dunno. How are the Palestinians with the suicide bombings doing? They've accomplished a lot in the past 20 years with that approach.
