About a week ago, I put Frontline on my 17 year old cat, but it doesn't seem to be working. Yes, it's the correct one for his size. Yes, I put it on him correctly. The fleas are just really bad this year (I've been treating my house and yard, too). Frontline just doesn't seem to work that well. How long do I need to wait before putting Advantage on him?

You can apply Advantage as early as 2 weeks after applying the Frontline. I work at a vet clinic and we actually stopped selling Frontline because so many people said their pets still had fleas. Depending on where you live, fleas can be out year-round so if you have a really bad infestation you can apply flea protection as often as every 2-3 weeks. You don't have to use it only once a month if the problem isn't being controlled that way. The good thing about topical flea preventatives is after several months of consecutive use the pet's environment will actually be protected too. The way that Advantage & Frontline work is that the chemicals are soaked into your pet's skin cells. Fleas will have to have contact with your pet for the medication to kill them but they don't have to bite your pet to injest the chemicals. That's the way that oral preventatives work but it's kind of pointless if the flea has to bite the pet in order to be killed. That's what we're trying to avoid by using the flea prevention! Anyway, cats & dogs shed all of their skin cells (just like people) over the course of a month so the Advantage has to be reapplied not because it isn't working but because it was in the skin cells that your pet has shed. That's how it protects the environment too, it's still there just not on the cat anymore. I'm in Texas and fleas are awful here too! Good luck!

Neither Frontline nor Advantage is a repellant. If you have fleas in your enviornment then you wil lstill see fleas on your pets regardless which one you use. Fleas will still get on your pet but they will die and with Frontline the eggs will not be able to hatch. Once you get a handle on the fleas in the enviornment then you wil lsee fewer fleas on your pets. If you are using bombs in your house then you are wasting your money since the bombs only go up in the air and come down on surfaces where fleas aren't. You will need a good spray (your vet can supply you with one that is also safe for pets & family) that can be sprayed under couch & chair cushions, around baseboards, under furniture, in cracks & crevices where the fleas really are

That Frontline is some worthless crap!! I love Advantage. I would wait a month after the last application of Frontline and then do the switch.

Suppose to wait a month.. I hate frontline! Tried it on my dog and it didnt seem to work. Plus it takes longer for it to work.. I will never buy it again! Advantage all the way!! And if you pay another 2 bucks it will protect them from ticks. They are bad in Oklahoma this year.
You can start the treatment a week or two early though. Ask your vet.

I would say a month or so you don't want your cat getting poisoned now. You know if those treatments don't work you can try this one shampoo i can't recal the name of it but it is in a silver bottle with green letters.
