There are several birds which this could be, but I cannot make a positive id because there is no frame of reference to see what size the bird is and you cannot clearly see the facial markings or determine the colour of the beak with any accuracy. However I would guess it is either a Great Egret....(non breeding plumage)

Or a Great White Heron.... http://www.fotosearch.com/comp/IDX/IDX010/540525.jpg

it could even possibly be an immature Little blue Heron...(less likely)

Again without being able to tell the size of the bird in your picture, or clearly see the facial features I cannot say for certain. So you will have to judge for yourself as to what bird it may be... I am thinking it is a Great Egret though, especially when compared to the first picture in my answer.
I can tell you one thing for certain... it is not a crane.
Ps the picture provided by Sitboy above is not a crane, it is a Great Egret...

I believe they were trying to depict either a Snowy egret or a Great Egret. The bill is black, so I think it is a snowy, because Great Egrets have yellow bills. However, this bird has all black legs like a Great, but Snowys have yellow feet (with black legs), so that is why I say the artist may have had either bird in mind.

This bird is a Great Egret. No other bird looks like this. Some cranes look similar, but none look identical to your bird. More thank likely, this bird is in some southern swamp, where it would hunt fish. I hope this can help you! :)

Swans and albatrosses - good god. This is a either a crane of some kind, or a snowy egret. Do an internet search on cranes, egrets, and herons, and you'll probably find one.

It is a crane... looks to me like it might be what is commonaly called a snowbird. A northern region crane that migrates south during the cold arctic winters... I thnk it may even be called a snow crane or arctic crane...
Used to see them in Alaska all the time.

It looks like a great egret. It's not an adult North American whooping crane because it doesn't have the black mustache or red band on it's head. That is a beautiful photo.
