Cassandra was not a goddess, but she was a priestess in the temple of Apollo. Cassandra tried to warn the people of Troia that the city was about to be destroyed by the Greeks, but the Trojan king Priamos did not believe her and imprisoned her. Of course, she was right.Today, we call someone "Cassandra" if they are pessimistic and make unpleasant predictions.

In Greek mythology, Cassandra ("she who entangles men") (also known as Alexandra) was a daughter of King Priam and Queen Hecuba of Troy whose beauty caused Apollo to grant her the gift of prophecy. Read the source below for the rest of the story! Interesting - thanks for asking the question - i wouldnt have researched about this otherwise!!

She was a princess, daughter of Hecuba and King Priam, the rulers of Troy during the Trojan War.
She was wooed by Apollo, but turned him down at the last moment. He cursed her by making her true prophecies unbelievable to people. Here are some sites to check out: http://www.loggia.com/myth/cassandra.html , another one: http://www.arthistory.sbc.edu/imageswomen/papers/fittoncassandra/intro.html and one last site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassandra
Hope this helps, good luck in your research.

|She was a princess, but she was also a priestess of the temple of Apollo. Maybe that's where you got a bit confused. I can certainly understand....
I had to look it up myself, but didn't get the link. I forgot....
Shame on me!
