Hi Kay,
Just like you I am now looking for an auto loan, too, and saw HSBC ads and wondered the same thing. So I did a web search, looking for unbiased ratings and recommendations for HSBC and any others. I think I found the right website: http://www.lendersrated.com
They even have a link for HSBC for a promotional rate.
I hope this helps you.

borrowing money to buy things that go down in value makes tons of sense... Hell, just yesterday I borrowed 100K to buy 3 brand new cars... I'm investing!!!...no sense, right?
In short, there is no good way to finance a car... The way you should think about cars, is the way you should think of everything, if you don't have the cash to pay for it, you cannot afford it.
cheap cars roll down the road just as well as expensive cars..

The only problems I've heard of is that they are very aggressive if you are late on a payment.
