Because people forget that we were put on earth to serve God, not for Him to serve us.

God is a metaphor for the eternal force that is the universe. The same three basic elements that make up a star's atoms also make up ours. So in a sense we are the universe and it is us. A rock several miles from Stonehenge with a Celtic saying carved in it dating from 3500 years ago reads "Let us worship the power. The power which moves the universe. For behold the lords of light have set their stars upon the heavens. The Earth spins and the Moon holds her course. Let us walk proudly and hold our heads high for the sky is our Father and the Earth our Mother and we are the children of Gods". If you hate the Christian God you hate a fictional character. If you hate the true idea of God you hate yourself.

Atheists don't hate god. They dislike, or sometimes hate, the belief in god. Atheists are usually very sure of their beliefs and as a consequence they don't see eye to eye with those who strongly believe otherwise.
Religion is tied strongly with emotions. Atheism is tied strongly to science and intellectualism. From an atheist's point of view, religious people are of the weaker mind and therefore often don't respect a religious person that much.
Often this disrespect leads one to say they "hate god" because it aggravates a believer. It's a cheap form of mental bullying that gives them a rise.
[Note: These are generalizations that do not fit every individual out there.]

I do not believe in god and I do not hate god. Do you hate unicorns? Do you hate the easter bunny? Do you hate dragons?
No... because you can't hate something that doesn't exist. I have no feelings toward God one way or the other.
I know it helps Christians to believe that non-believers HATE God because they just can't understand why someone wouldn't believe in God but it's just not accurate.
Now I do hate organized religion because I believe it's a business that has used the concept of God to manipulate people into doing their bidding for them in God's name. But God had nothing to do with it.

Which God do you mean? Zeus? Thor? Loki? Oh, let me guess, you mean the God of the Old Testament, the God of the Jews, the Christians, and of Islam (where he goes by the name Allah).
No, I don't hate any of those Gods. But I do hate how screwed up cultures become when they think they are "God's chosen people", and use that as a justification to kill in the name of "God".

I love God. I have been through a lot of hard times. Faith has kept me strong. As long as I believe God is there, things will work out. Things are hard before they get better. Sometimes people that are going through a hard time lose their faith & they get angry at God. It is an easy thing to do. I not saying I don't stress about my finances or etc but i just have to keep the faith.

I hate what I was taught about God. Years of hearing "God has blessed you" when something good happens and "God has a lesson for you to learn" when something bad happens. There was a period of my life where everything fell apart, my house burned, my back went out, I lost my job....I spent a long time feeling like I must be a horrible person for God to have "let" that happen.

I don't think that it's so much that people hate god, it's just that they hate people which use god as an answer to everything without question. Also I personally hate "holy rollers", televangelists and the like. I think small churches usually get the message across better and are truer to their roots.

Most people don't hate him, just his "people." And then not all of them. Some Christians think that their religion is the only one out there that matters. They condemn, assault (psychically and verbally), and insult people who think different. Why do you think people who don't believe in your god hate him? Isn't that a little ignorant?
