It depends which beer & which country. But in general, for the US, most beer is 5% alcohol. It's usually higher in Europe.

Most beer has about 3 - 6% alcohol, unless you want to drink anything from a company called Unibrue, which has beers with up to a 9.9% alcohol content. I live in New York and am speaking for where I'm at.

Most beer that you will run into is between 4%-5% ABV.
The highest commercially produced beer in the World is made by Samuel Adams, and it's 25%. The lowest that I've heard of (and still consider it to be beer) was just under 3%.

The highest proof beer in the world has about 24% alcohol, but on average I think they are 3-8% alcohol in the U.S. European beer is usually higher % alcohol than American beer though, but I'm not positive on their %'s.

Bud Ice: 5.5%
Keystone Ice: 5.9%
those as far as I know are the highest alcohol % in the beer category. "Light" beers have significantly less and come in at around 3-4% the rest of them fall within the 4-5% range.

Around 5% usually, but anywhere from 3 on up to 12 or thirteen percent in some of the highest. Yechh, if you ask me, I'd rather drink wine than an HAC beer....
