Please tell me what you would do in the following hypothetical situation.

Your strolling downtown throught the sidewalks of New York. As you walk past an ally, you notice that some thugs are beating someone up. One of the thugs is standing at the ally-street crossway shooting dirty looks at anyone who takes attention. Your cellphone is dead and the only payphone you can see is right in front of the thug.

Please answer the following:

1) what art thy religious beliefs, or lack there of?
2) what would thou doest?
(be honest brothers and sisters, for ye art representatives of thine faiths)

2) I would walk on down the road to another pay phone. It wouldn't help the person being beaten up if I, too, am hurt or killed. At least I can call the police and give a statement and description of what I witnessed.

2) What is important is resolving the issue is such a way that the total amount of harm done both then and in the future. Thugs who get away with it are likely to harm others in the future.

First, I would assess how many and how strong they are. If I had people with me that would help. Otherwise the first option would be to intercede immediately to stop further harm coming to the victim, clearly stating what you intend to do and why do it (ie. say "I can't let this happen. It is wrong."

I happen to be a bit of a martial artist, so I could take down a few. However, if they were stronger than me, the next option would be to see if I can rally a crowd to get them.

The last option is to take down and memorise as many details as I can, then call police and ambulance from the second nearest phone (not the one behind the thug), and stay with the person once they had gone to stop people looting the injured body.

Smart thing - go to another phone and call 911.

Smart *** thing - Walk right up and call on the phone in front of the the thug.

Personal Wish - Administer the Baseball Bat of Love. Helping their poor lost souls by flagellation.

More than likely do the smart thing, which is what I did the last time...esp since I didn't HAVE the Baseball Bat of Love handy.

Course if there's only one thug, he's in trouble. If there's two, I'm smart-***, and if there's three I'm gonna be smart...Last time i was being smart...there was 5 guys in a Chevy suburban....

2. Try to find another phone. Or, since I'm in New York (a really busy city) try to find some other people to help me help the guy who is getting beat up. That would be my first guess. Or walk into any business on that street, they should at least have a phone.

2. this is a tough question. i'd pray to the lord to please give me the strength to do the right thing. hopefully there would be others near by and hopefully i'd be able to contact the police one way or another. i don't think i could let the torture of remembering how i let someone get beat up live with me... it may seem selfish in that sense, but it's true. i would feel obligated. i hope that i have the strength if this situation presents itself. however, i must be honest, i don't think i'd have the physical strength to take the thugs out by myself. :) good question.

2) Yell fire! Bump into a few cars so peoples car alarms would be going off. That would draw attention to the area in question. Then I would run for a fast get away to a safer place.

No faith involved. I would do the best i could to help a person in need aka kicking thou's *** to the best of my ability. Even if i lost i still did something. Evil only only wins if good men or women do nothing.

2) I don't know. I'd like to think I'd stand up to them and come to the person's defense. But I've never been faced with that so I don't know if I'd have the guts. I certainly wouldn't do NOTHING. I'd have to flag someone down to use their phone I guess. And try to get a good look at them to identify them to the police.

2) I'd start yelling for help, and getting as much attention as I can. I'd probably get at least a few ppl looking at me, so I'd point to the thugs and get some ppl to come with me and help stop them. I'm not very big, so I'd need help.
