>Dante is dead, and has been so for a long time, therefore he probably is (in the christian view) very aware of what Hell is like.

In the view of those who don't believe in Hell or Heaven, he is simply dead.

The "Inferno" was mostly political writing anyway, and therefore unbelievable, at best.<

Dante may have believed in the metaphor that hell is on earth. Now, this is a possibility. Some believe you have to go through hell before you get to a better place.

I too, once thought that I was living in hell!!!! I went so far as to ask a preacher if he thought that we were living in purgatory, and he said "No!"

What I am trying to say is that . . . you create your own hell. You don't have to live like that, and I promise you that life is beautiful - you just have to believe that it is.

Hearing day after day how horrible that life is - with music, with others, with whatever. Is the worst thing you can continue to hear. And, I am telling you from my own experience - GET OUT OF THE NEGATIVE, AND NOW!!!!!

You have got to find something within you, to believe that you are not in hell. A song, a friend, a therapist, a preacher, something, because feeling that way . . . IS HELL.

You can talk to me. I won't judge, but I will listen.

Dante's "Divine Comedy" is not intended as a spiritual guide in any way. Most of it was written as a commentary on politics in his place and time in Italy. It's a metaphor--a long, extended story used to illustrate his ideas and perceptions of what was going on around him at the time. And remember, it's POETRY! It isn't intended as a guide book, but rather a work of art. And in my opinion, it's a damn fine one, to boot.

Dante was a poet and that is what poets do they create imagery using words. It's called an imagination. It doesn't mean it is real. It's fantasy. All movies are such.

Because he's a fanciful idiot who thought it would be cool to write a book trying to explain God, the Cosmos, and the Afterlife.

Kind of like how all these crackheads write books and claim to be the prophet of God, hence the origins of the Bible, the Qur'an, and any religion based on them.

It's not right or wrong, it just illustrates the ideas of afterlife commonly believed within his religion during his time. It's actually supposed to be comedic.
