Yes.. I cancelled my long distance carrier, and use an AT&T calling card I got from Target. You just call an 800 number, enter the card 'PIN' number, then dial your number.. By cancelling my long distance on my home service, I also save the monthly charge most all phone companies have. You may be charged up to $3.50 or more per month for having a long distance carrier, EVEN IF YOU NEVER CALL LONG DISTANCE!! So from now on, I use the calling card, at about 3 cents per minute..

The phone companies here either block the line so you have to use a calling card or they have a default long distance company that picks up the calls and charges you a fortune to call...something like 30 cents a minute.
I have had my long distance service canceled and only used a calling card before....be care which one you use. Some will not recognize your phone as a home phone and charge you a connect fee like they do with pay phones....I had Qwest do that and I had to file a complaint with the FCC to make them reimburse me those fees.

Yes you can. Although with some phone cards, you get better rates/min. if you use local access numbers. Do you pay a flat fee for unlimited local calls?
