It should not get infected if you make sure you keep it clean.

If the other day means yesterday, your fine. Keep it clean, use some hydrogen peroxide to kill and infectious microbes that are in there, then use some antibiotic ointment.

If its been three days or more, soak in warm salt water, and if you see puss or any blood is milky looking, go see a doc, you could have an infection. The last thing you want is to lose your thumb or have it travel into your bloodstream. If you dont see any fluid, give it a little squeeze and see what comes out. If its deep red blood your fine, you will be able to see anything else in it. If so, see a doc. Giving it a little squeeze is important because the infection could be scarred over a bit and the preassure will force a bit of it out for you to tell.

Ist off all you need to keep the area clean and dry,if you dont keep it clean yes it will get infected and the infection will travel to your blood stream. If you notice that your thumb is red and feeling very hot you have n infection then you need antiobiotics for this.If you dont have none off these symptoms just keep an eye on it,it will fell bruised as a tiny fragment off cheese was pushed against your nail bed that area is very fragile, just keep an eye on this and dont keep the plaster on to long you need air to get to the area.Good Luck

Anything can get infected.
Make sure you keep it protected from the outside world, put medication on it, and wait for time to do it's thing. Cheese? Wow, I have to watch out for that one.

it may just be sore, but it might become infected. keep am eye on the place of injury and if it becomes red and warm to the touch then it could be infected. you should also get a tetanus jab,if you haven't had one in the last year or so.
