Taken off money?

It was only added to paper money in the 1950s to combat the "godless commies" in Russia. Cold war is over people. Why should the government support only a select religion?

How would you like it if "In Allah we trust", "In Budda we trust", "In Zeus/Jupiter we Trust" or something of that like was on our money? All of a sudden you'd be like "No No, we can't have that on our money!"

THIS COUNTRY ISN'T A CHRISTIAN COUNTRY. OUR FORFATHERS DIDN'T ESTABLISH THIS COUNTRY IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST OR ANY OTHER RELIGION.

Give me a GOOD reason we as Americans should support a select religion, namely your religion, and delcare all others as inferior.

Hi there everybody.

"God" clearly supports a Christian god. How about putting "god" as to not name one god over another?

Oh and it is funny that I focus on money, I mean money is the basis of society in the modern world. I could protest the pledge of allegiance, except that I don't actually have to submit to that for saying it is voluntary. However, I am required to look at the little phrase "In God We Trust" on every piece of money I have. I am just wondering if we didn't need that phrase on our coins for the first hundred or so years, and on our paper money for the first two hundred or so years, why do we still need it when Atheist Russia is no longer our enemy?

P.S. Four of the first five presidents were deists, not Christians.Just because creator is used doesn't mean a Christian creator. Also, I noticed that in the Declaration of Independence, the whole "all Men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Persuit of Happiness" doesn't include those of African descent back then, does it? Well then this country sure will support slavery as part of it's morals forever!

My point is just because its in or isn't in the Declaration of Independence doesn't mean its set in stone.

Wow! I have to say that you are asking intellegent questions and giving hillarious answers on other people's questions... I was actually trying to write you personally to laugh about something you wrote, but found this.

I don't think we should take it off. Only because it would cost too much money to do so. I think everyone should just let it go. The only thing taking it off will do is to cause a religious uproar. The Christians will start more ferociously attacking other things in sheer panic that their religion is being wiped out of 'their' country. It would only cause more drama. I say we save costly legislation for things that can actually make a difference. What's written on the money is not really all that important. It could come last in things that need to change in this country, actually. I know it's annoying, but so is the fact that baloney is spelled bologna and I'm definately not going to waste time pushing that issue.

Our nation was not founded as a Christian nation, that's why God does not appear in the US Constitution. I can't believe there's even a debate about this, talk about revisionist history.

In God we Trust should be removed from our currency. E Pluribus Unum is universal.

In God we Trust excludes several religions and atheism, and America is not about excluding people.

Addendum: Wow, this page is like a best-hits CD for poor arguments and ignorance. Majority rules in a democracy? If that was the case, then slavery would still be in vogue in southern states, and they'd still have different laws for colored people and whites. Just because something is popular doesn't make it right. The Constitution is there to protect the minority. It's easy to say stop whining when you're comfortably in the majority and it's your religion that's being pushed on others. It's harder to do the right thing when it conflicts with your religious views, but that doesn't give you a free pass to do the wrong thing.

As for prayer in the schools, Hitler was forced his country to pray in schools too (he was a devout Christian). Then some of those kids grew up into the SS and killed a whole lot of people. Read the Bible sometime, there's more violence in there than in Mein Kampf.

Deist:

The belief, based solely on reason, in a God who created the universe and then abandoned it, assuming no control over life, exerting no influence on natural phenomena, and giving no supernatural revelation.

Most of the founding fathers were Deists. No one said Atheist.

While they believed in God, they didn't ascribe to the cult of the Nazarene. Try re-reading some of the things quoted as "Christian" and think of that definition of Deism.

Firm belief in our Creator.

Endowed by their Creator...

Do you see the name Jesus anywhere? Seems many of the Nazarenes interpret anytime they see God as Jesus.

Leave it there. I don't see it hurting anybody. I doubt people have been ostracized, and beaten for a slogan on a dollar. Really people, have we become a country of victims? I suggest you do what I do and Just deal with it. I don't go to other countries and demand they change their lives to suit my needs. Really, we need to stop being so delicate.

I believe I can trust one person in my life and that is me : )
On the other hand God comes from within us
So that is a part of trusting God
I don't think God would appreciate being on currency, I think that is more political then region based !

Right before my eyes!
I've seen it happen so many times! (in history, not in my life)
The only reason America is a free country, is because it WAS founded on God whether you like it or not.
In the bible times, Israel trusted in God and turned away from Him so many times, creating alters for Baal, Ashteroth and such false gods and godesses.
And every single time they did that, God punished them.
Their false gods did not save them either.

"1 Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.
2 When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon and set it by Dagon.
3 And when the people of Ashdod arose early in the morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. So they took Dagon and set it in its place again.

Or have any of you heard of the story of Elijah? He made an alter to the Lord, and many priests of Baal made an alter to their god.
They agreed to both take a turn, Elijah would pray to God and the priests would pray to Baal, and see which one answered with fire.
The priests prayed to Baal for fire to consume the sacrifice for a long time, but nothing happened.
Then Elijah went up there and prayed to the Lord saying: “LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word. Go ahead, you're not going to get me to change my mind.
I'd rather worship God than Allah or Budda (or Dagon, for the sake of the story) The God that can do such things, the REAL God, the ONLY God.
In God I trust. I don't mind having it on my money, but if America's just going to repeat what Israel has done so many times, then I pity it.
I'd rather have a shack on a rock than a castle in the sand.

You are mistaken, our forefathers did establish this country using the foundations of biblical principles as a bedrock in making the laws and establishing our own boundaries.

One good reason? Because this is a majority country and the majority has voted ... God wins.

My goodness, I hope you aren't a reflection of all American's when it comes to a simple understanding of the Founding Fathers of our Great Nation.

Does this sound familar?:

We hold these truths to be self-evident [clear, not needing further proof], that all men are created equal, that they are endowed [furnished, provided] by their Creator....

What? A creator?

We say, "So help me God" We swear upon the Bible - the ultimate example of truth. The Ten Commandments are abundat in court-rooms. Do you need me to go on?

It is "cute" you focus on money - which is no surprise by this post coming form the American youth, but it is obvious you have no clue, not even a hint of how "GOD" influenced the great nation you enjoy so much.

Grow up.

Yes, even though they it's not actually choosing a religion (Chistianity IS of course implied).
Not everyone believes in a god.
